Carson`s Draft Horse Futurity Promotion – Program

advertisement
2013 - Ontario Draft Horse
Futurity Promotion Winner
Trippcrest Fury’s Ajak, owned and exhibited by Gord Ruzicka
Bred by Trippcrest Farms – Jane Gray.
On October 26th, 2013, 16 out of 30 eligible horses returned to Carson’s
Fall Colors Draft Sale to compete for the pot of $38,786.86. To be eligible,
the horse had to be purchased in the Futurity Foal section of the 2011 sale.
This futurity program was started to promote the draft horse industry by
encouraging all draft horse breeders to participate in a futurity program
that will demonstrate the breed characteristics and versatility of the draft
breed as a halter horse and as a hitch horse. The intent is that the horse
will appeal to one or all aspects of today’s market and produce a very
saleable animal for its owner by participating in this program.
The competition is decided by total points awarded by 3 judges, in three
classes. The competition started with the halter class and it was obvious
with the well turned out horses this was going to be a good day. Next up
was the Pattern Class and it was here that you could really see the results
of the training (both for the horse and the driver as knowing the prepublished course was critical in keeping those points).
The weather once again didn’t co-operate, so the pattern class was moved
to the side of the sales arena as the show must go on. Finally completing
the days events was the cart class which was split into two sections.
All competitors eagerly awaited the results the next morning, which were
announced just before the horse sale and congratulations went to Gord
Ruzicka with his overall win on Trippcrest Fury’s Ajak. So the long trip
from Alberta was worth while with Gord winning $10,236.56. An
awesome Prize Pot for any 2 Year Old horse to win. The rest of the
results were as follows:
1st
- $10,236.56 Gord Ruzicka on Trippcrest Fury’s Ajak
2nd
- $ 6,824.36 Eric Chretien on Ogdenburg AX’s Whitaker
3rd

th
9

10th
- $ 853.05 Malcom Yeadon on Ryanday Flash’s Flora
10th to 16th All received $200.00 for competing in all 3 classes.
This futurity definitely added an excitement to the sale with everyone
being able to compete. No fancy wagon or harness is required. The judges
are to judge each animal on performance only. As long as both the horse
and equipment are presented neat, clean and tidy.
This year you can either be a:
 Breeder selling your 2014 colts.
 Buyer wanting to compete in 2016 futurity program
 Sponsor helping to promote the draft horse industry
 Spectator enjoying this new event
 Everyone is welcome.
There is no reason NOT to get
involved. This year the Futurity
Prize Pot is:
Approx. - $50,000.00
These are the only horses eligible for the 2014
Futurity Promotion Program
If any of these horses have been sold, can you please notify Carson’s office, so that
the futurity information can be sent to the new owners.

Total from the Sale of the Futurity Weanlings was $87,050.00 with 45% going to the
2014 Futurity Pot which is $39,172.50. This was 42 weanlings being sold with an
average of $2,072.62 per head which is a very good average for our colts which all
helps our breeders. On top of this are our very generous sponsors who have helped to
support the new program.
These are the only 42 horses that are able to come back to our 2014 Futurity Program
as 2 Year Olds and compete for the money, on October 24th & 25th, 2014 at Carson’s
Fall Colors Draft Horse Sale. It is the horses that are registered to this program and
not the buyers. These horses could be sold to a new buyer and still be eligible for this
program. All animals have been micro-chipped and will be checked before they
compete.

appeal and the action of the individual all to be considered. All breeds, all sexes, to
show in the same class.

Black, Cal Lipsett Jr., Margo Carson, Eli Ebersol, Nate Fenech,

The following points were discussed and will be implemented this

 The income that the judges will be given was reviewed and
will be increased to $300.00 for each judge. The committee
will discuss who the judges will be at the meeting held at
the CNE.
 All 3 events for the futurity will be held on one day, the
Friday of the Fall Draft Horse Sale – Halter, Pattern Class
& Cart Class -in this order. With the results being

 The order for the pattern class will be decided as each

number out of the hat to decide the order.
 If the cart class needs to be split, due to the numbers, It will
be the first 8 horses. No more than 8 horses will go in the

It was discussed if the number of entries into the Futurity
should be restricted. The members decided that we will leave
it as it is, and will review this in a few years if we find out we
are unable to handle the amount of returning futurity
competitors.
To help make it easier for the judges, the pattern class will be
divided into 1/3 sections with each judge being allocated 100
points for their different section. Then all 3 judges scores
will be added together to find the winner. In the line class
the judges will judge each horse from the same point so that
they are seeing the animal move all at the same time.
The option of a Junior Award was discussed but it was
decided that this was not necessary within this competition.
We are looking for a logo that we could use to distinguish
this individual event, The Draft Horse Futurity Promotion
Program, and use with any future printed material. All
suggestions are welcome and have to be submitted before the
CNE. Please get your thinking caps on.
The prize money breakdown was discussed and reviewed but
this will NOT be implemented until the 2015 weanlings
compete. The breakdown is as follows:
