Mugharreb’s sell to $110,000
There was a real positive for South Australia to come out of the Adelaide Sale in the shape of the
first crop of the superbly bred son of Gone West, Mugharreb.
In a sale that struggled for highlights, the Mugharreb’s strode into the Adelaide sale ring and created
an impression akin to John Wayne in one of his classic westerns, but the star of the show was the
horses.
The first crop Mugharreb’s sold to $110,000 just $10,000 short of the Day 2 top price.
In session one, Mugharreb provided the ninth top price with a quality filly (Lot 92), sold by Willow
Grove Stud making $55,000 (1/2 sister to Amyjaye Power). Another nice colt from the same vendor
Lot 11 made $25,000.
On Day 2, Mugharreb provided 2 of the top 12 prices. Lot 183 (1/2 brother to Blahnik) offered by
Tori Park Stud making $110,000 to the bid of Kennewell Racing and Lot 285, (1/2 brother to
Allstar)from Willow Grove Stud, a very likely type, sold to Gordon Richards for $53,000.
Another outstanding type, Lot 148, exceeded Vendor expectations with Richard Jolly having to fight
off spirited competition to secure the impressive colt for $40,000.
With 19 Mugharreb’s offered in the 2 select sessions, he achieved an impressive clearance rate, with
only 3 lots passed in by their vendors, and despite two lots selling cheaply, still averaged $26,000 for
the 16 lots sold, a tick over the sale average.
Session 3(Non Select) also found another likely type by Mugharreb in Lot 393, a filly selling to the bid
of astute Morphettville trainer Mark Minervini for $20,000, equal fifth top price for the session.
Willow Grove Stud who purchased Mugharreb in 2006 from Sheikh Hamdan al Maktoum, achieved a
good result selling 10 of their 12 lots, averaging over $30,000 , including a lovely Belong To Me filly,
Lot 133, selling to Joe Hall for $74,000.
Mugharreb served 74 mares in 2007 returning 70 in foal. Mugharreb’s 2008 service fee remains
unchanged at $5,500
