Hearts Warming Homes provides energy assistance based on needs arising from situations that are beyond people’s control, such as job loss, abandonment of the family head of household, fixed income with no ability to work as in the case of the elderly or persons with disabilities, family member ill or hospitalized, etc. The program is for any fuel that is used for the primary source of heat (e.g. electricity, natural gas, propane, or wood). Assistance can only be given once per year. “If you or someone you know is struggling to pay their heating bill, they can contact the nearest Salvation Army office in person and ask about Hearts Warming Homes,” says Marshall Moody of AWG. “The Hearts Warming Homes Program is in effect from November 2009 through April 2010 again this year. If area citizens want to help others stay warm this winter, they can also donate directly to The Salvation Army to help the program. It’s a way people can help people and can spread warmth to those in need. Last year, 312 families representing 852 individuals were served through Hearts Warming Homes. We hope to be able to help even more individuals and families in Northwest Arkansas this year.” Interested parties can find more information at: www.awgonline.com or by calling The Salvation Army at 479.521.2151.
