Section 2: “The Musical Rhythm of Language”

End of Section Project

Now that we have completed the activities in Section 2, your “test” over this material will be the creation of a project that incorporates language with musical rhythm. Remember that musical rhythm can be created by using the strategies listed below. You must spend at least three hours of time working on this project. You will need to document the time you spent on the project and hand this documentation in on the day you present your project.

literal repetition with a noun –page 59

literal repetition of words and sounds in poetry and song lyrics – page 63

literal repetition with clauses and phrases - page 67

( subordinate conjunctions, prepositions, relative pronouns)

grammatical rhythms with nouns and adjectives – page 74

grammatical rhythms with participle brush strokes – page 75

grammatical rhythms with participles and prepositions – page 77

combined literal and grammatical repetition – page 79

You may choose to complete one of the following projects:

1.

Write and record to a cd a three to five minute speech answering the question “Does my generation have a role in America’s future?” Create a musical rhythm to your speech such as Martin Luther King, Jr. did in his “I have a dream...” speech. Follow the link below for more information. http://www.vfw.org/Community/Voice-of-Democracy/

2.

Create an entry for the PTA Arts Reflection program incorporating the theme,

“Together we can…” Create a musical rhythm to your entry. Follow the link

below for more information. http://www.ptareflections.org/cs/literature_rules

3.

Create a motto or slogan for an organization or business. This motto needs to

incorporate a method for creating a musical rhythm. After creating the motto,

design a visually attractive poster or advertisement for this organization or

business. Another option would be to use fabric paints and an old T-shirt to

design a team shirt.

4.

Write a creed for a school organization that you are a member of, or make up an organization that you wish you could be a member of. This creed should incorporate at least one method for creating a musical rhythm.

5. Create a photo collage on a theme of your choice. Write captions for each picture.

Your captions need to incorporate a method for creating musical rhythm. Use

Photo Story or some other program to save and present your collage.
