GENERAL CHEMISTRY CALCULATOR POLICY: All students in general chemistry courses are required to have a
scientific calculator with exponential and logarithm capability. Only simple scientific calculators may
be used. Programmable calculators with significant memory, PDA (personal digital assistant) devices,
such as Palm Pilots, laptop computers, cellular telephones, and any other electronic devices that connect
to the wireless network are prohibited during quizzes and examinations. Use of a prohibited electronic
device during a quiz or exam will be considered as a form or academic dishonesty.

Questions about Grading should be initially taken to the grader of the quiz or examination, then
to your TA and finally to Dr. Turner within 1 week of the paper being returned to you.

Attendance of all lectures, laboratory periods, discussions and all examinations is mandatory.

Excused absences will be entertained after discussion with Dr. Turner in person. Family and
medical emergencies, supported by suitable documentation, are in general the only reasons that an absence
will be entertained.
6.
Absence from any examination will result in an automatic zero grade being recorded.
7.
Any academic infringement of the Honor code will result in an F grade being recorded for the
course.
8.
No written material of any kind may be taken into an examination, quiz or the Final.
Additional Help: The tutorial center, in Buehler Hall, opposite the General Chemistry office on the 5th
floor, is staffed from 9.00 a.m. Until 5 p.m. daily during the semester. All Chem 120 students are
invited to the three review sessions on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, from 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. in
Bueher 511. These review sessions will be held each week throughout the semester, except for times when
Dr. Turner is out of town. Office hours are held on Monday from 2 – 5 p.m. at Buehler 409.
