Targeted therapy for malignancies is dependent upon reagents
that specifically adhere to the tumor cells and inhibit their ability
to grow. We will focus on the types, and their mechanism of
action. We will discuss the applications and review success and
limitations of these reagents, as well as introduce what the future
holds for us in this field of cancer therapy.

anatomic pathology. Human and veterinary pathologists
have much in common in regards to training and
procedures, but our diagnostic goals sometimes differ.
Large animal and wildlife cases will be used to
demonstrate the breadth and depth of veterinary
pathology. Graphic images will be shown.

delivery and gross room. The basic functional units
of a placenta, techniques of grossing and description
will be discussed. Participants will learn about
commonly missed gross placental diagnoses and

IHC Markers in the
Pathology Lab Today
Rene Benson BS HT/HTL (ASCP)
This presentation will address IHC markers and how
they are used in pathologic diagnosis. A brief
background, a synopsis of the chemistry involved,
and the evolution of panels will be included.
Attention will be given to the proper receipt and
handling of specimens in the gross room to ensure
optimal IHC staining. Examples of how specific
panels are use to type very grave and difficult cases
will be discussed.

The Mid-Atlantic Pathologists’ Assistants (MAPA) Educational
Conference is accredited by ASCLS PACE to provide continuing
medical education for pathologists’ assistants.
Designation of Credit
MAPA designates this educational activity for a maximum of 8
certification maintenance program credits. Attendees should only
claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the
activity.

unforeseen circumstances. In the event of cancellation or postponement
by MAPA, we will refund registration fees, but are not responsible for
any related costs, charges or expenses to participants, including
cancellation fees assessed by airlines, travel agencies and hotels. If a
participant must cancel his/her course registration, he or she may receive
a refund if written notification is sent by May 15. Refunds will not be
processed after this date. All refunds are subject to a $25.00 cancellation
