This talk will review the evolution of the field of
radiation oncology from non-conformal radiotherapy
methods to the current state-of-the-art, highly precise
and conformal, stereotactic body radiation therapy
methods. Technologies to be reviewed include;
CyberKnife, Tomotherapy, TrueBeam, and
GammaKnife. The technical aspects, indications, and
potential toxicities of treatment of stereotactic
radiotherapy will be reviewed.

The current and upcoming breast imaging modalities
will be reviewed. The techniques, clinical indications
will be discussed. Breast biopsy will be discussed,
including techniques, equipment and clips.
Clinical cases and examples using these modalities
will be reviewed with aim towards providing
radiology/pathology correlation.

Oncology Nurse Navigator
Role of nurse navigator and the benefits of this to patient
care. Also will walk audience through some of the
decisions patients have to make during their cancer
journey, while doing this will be discussing newer
treatment options and how they are used in breast cancer
care. Discuss surgery for breast cancer, radiation
options (whole breast radiation vs partial breast
radiation), oncotype dx testing and how it plays a role in
decision making regarding chemotherapy, reconstructive
options available for those undergoing mastectomy and
survivorship issues and treatment summaries.

The Cooperative Human Tissue Network (CHTN) is
a National Cancer Institute sponsored program that
collects human issue for research. This presentation
will illustrate how this program, which is embedded
in surgical pathology departments, is able to utilize
remnant pathology specimens and provide high
quality biosamples to the research community. The
impact of this program will be explored through the
scientific advances that have resulted through these
research efforts.

Transplantation

Discussion of the roles of the organ
procurement organization (Gift of Life
Donor Program), the donor hospital, and the
transplant center in the organ donation and
transplantation process.
Overview of the donation process including:
referral of the patient to the OPO, donor
evaluation, family request for donation,
allocation of organs to recipients, surgical
procurement of organs and operating room
process including biopsies
Discussion of the role of lab professionals,
focusing on the pathology department, in
determining suitability of donor organs for
transplant.
The Lab at LGH strives for constant improvement. We
make it a priority to be a leader in the field of laboratory
science. This presentation will address three current
examples: ISO lab certification, automated inoculation –
microbiology, and robotic specimen automation lines.

the American Society for Clinical Pathology as meeting the criteria
for 8 CMLE credits. ASCP CMLE credits are acceptable to meet the
continuing education requirement for the ASCP Board of Registry
Certification Maintenance Program. Attendees should only claim credit
commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

MAPA reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course due to
unforeseen circumstances. In the event of cancellation or postponement
by MAPA, we will refund registration fees, but are not responsible for
any related costs, charges or expenses to participants, including
cancellation fees assessed by airlines, travel agencies and hotels. If a
participant must cancel his/her course registration, he or she may receive
a refund if written notification is sent by May 10. Refunds will not be
processed after this date. All refunds are subject to a $25.00 cancellation

Course Registration:
It is strongly recommended that you register early for this program.
Registration is due by APRIL 15. If registering after April 15, please
include a late registration fee of $25. Registrations will be accepted on a
first come, first served basis according to the date registration forms and
payments are received.
