This presentation will illustrate how this program, which is embedded in surgical pathology departments, is able to utilize remnant pathology specimens and provide high quality biosamples to the research community. Overview of the donation process including: referral of the patient to the OPO, donor evaluation, family request for donation, allocation of organs to recipients, surgical procurement of organs and operating room process including biopsies Discussion of the role of lab professionals, focusing on the pathology department, in determining suitability of donor organs for transplant.
