Course Description:
This course provides on-going support for educational leadership students as they work
as members of research teams to complete an action research project on an authentic
school-based problem. Future school leaders must possess the following knowledge and
skills, as reflected in the TEAC claims and the NJISLLC standards, in order to promote
the success of all students:
1. Facilitate the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a
vision of learning that is shared and supported by the school community.
2. Advocate, nurture, and sustain an ethical, fair, and caring school culture and
instructional program conducive to student learning and staff professional growth.
3. Ensure management of the organization, operations, and resources for a safe,
efficient, and effective learning environment.
4. Collaborate with families and community members, responding to diverse
community interests and needs, and mobilizing community resources.
5. Act at all times with integrity, fairness, and in an ethical manner.
6. Respond to and influence the larger political, social, economic, legal, and cultural
context in order to positively affect the educational process for the school
Course Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course the student will:
1. Apply the action research process in a real school setting.
2. Demonstrate an understanding of the role of professional literature in the action
research process.
3. Present findings in a scholarly, organized manner to an audience of peers.
4. Produce a final written report that meets College standards.

Evaluation Policy:
Assessment and evaluation for this course will be performance-based. Therefore,
attendance and active involvement in class discussions and activities is essential and
expected. There will be written assignments, class projects, and individual and group
