INFORMATION ON FLU JABS GIVEN IN GENERAL PRACTICE

Further detail
People aged 65 years or over (including
those becoming age 65 years by 31 March
2016)
People aged from six months to less than To include:
65 years of age with a serious medical
 chronic (long term)respiratory
condition.
disease: asthma (on a regular
continuous inhaled steroid or oral
steroid tablet), chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease (COPD) or
bronchitis
 chronic heart disease such as heart
failure You do not require a flu
vaccine if you are taking blood
pressure tablets only for high
blood pressure without cardiac
complications
 chronic kidney disease at stage
three, four or five
 chronic liver disease
 chronic neurological disease:
Parkinson’s disease, motor neurone
disease, or learning disability
 diabetes
 splenic dysfunction
 a weakened immune system due to
disease (such as HIV aids) or
treatment (such as cancer treatment)
All pregnant women
All children two to less than 5 years
Carers
Household contacts of
immunocompromised individuals

vaccination is recommended at any
stage of pregnancy
(date of birth on or after 1 September 2010
and on or before 31 August 2013)
People who are in receipt of a carer’s
allowance, or those who are the main carer
of an older or disabled person whose welfare
may be at risk if the carer falls ill
Specifically individuals who expect to share
living accommodation on most days over the
winter and where close contact s
unavoidable
If you are not in any of the above groups you will not be given a flu
jab if attending an inappropriately booked appointment.
Flu jabs can be purchased privately from Boots Chemist,
Shaftesbury (£12.99) or from the larger pharmacies in Salisbury and
Yeovil.
