It is hard to believe that we have now been in our new premises for
just over three years and we trust that all patients and user groups
find them a vast improvement on what we had before.
2014-15 Seasonal Flu Campaign
With Summer barely over, it is that time of the year again when we
start preparing for the forth coming flu campaign. We ordered 1500
vaccines which have now arrived. For most people, seasonal flu is
unpleasant but not serious and they recover within a week.
However, certain people are at greater risk of developing serious
complications of flu, such as bronchitis and pneumonia. They may
require hospital treatment. A large number of elderly people die
from flu every winter. The seasonal flu vaccine is offered free of
charge to these at-risk groups to protect them from catching flu and
developing complications. The Department of Health recommends
that anyone with one or more of the following medical conditions
should ensure that they receive annual protection against flu:
 Are over 65
 Have a serious medical condition
 Chronic (long term) respiratory disease such as
COPD , severe asthma or bronchitis
 Chronic heart disease such as heart failure
 Chronic kidney disease
 Chronic liver disease
 Chronic neurological disease such as Parkinson’s
disease or motor neurone disease
 Diabetes or
 A weakened immune system due to disease such as
HIV / AIDS or treatment (such as cancer treatment)
 Live in a residential nursing home
 Are the main Carer for an elderly or disabled person whose
welfare may be at risk if you fall ill
 Are a healthcare or social care professional directly involved
in patient care
 pregnant women not in the high-risk groups
 children aged between 2years to under 5years of age
Initially, dedicated Flu Clinics for these patients will be held on the
First Floor at St .David’s Family Practice, on the following dates:
Saturday 4 October 2014
9.00am – 11.15am
Saturday 11 October 2014

Thank you to all those patients who participated in the survey
earlier this year. Our Patient Participation Group Committee, which
consists of patients of St .David’s, approved a Business Plan to
take the survey results forward. One of their recommendations was
to make it known to the patients, the special areas of clinical
interest that the Principal GP’s here have:
Dr Oberai – Mental Health
Dr Rai – Diabetes, Heart Disease, COPD
Dr Sodhi – Dermatology
Dr Drepaul – Women’s Health, Children’s Health and Welfare
Dr Saeed – Minor Operations including joint injections
Additionally, for the benefit of patients where English is not their first
language, we are able to provide an interpretation service for most
world languages. It would be helpful if you could inform us when
making appointments, that you require this service. Furthermore Dr
Oberai and Dr Rai speak Punjabi and Dr Saeed, Urdu.
New Faces
Five new Doctors have joined us in recent weeks. Dr Idowu (f), Dr
Phull (m), and Dr Tandon (f) are all training Doctors, whilst Dr Park
(m) and Dr Borrowman (f) are Foundation Doctors, on a four month
attachment to us. Drs Smith, Grange and Challenor who were our
training Doctors, have now moved on to continue their medical
careers elsewhere and we thank them for their services and wish
them well . Mrs Gould has joined our nursing team as a Locum,
whilst Mrs Bradbury has joined us as a Health Care Assistant.
Thank you
May we take this opportunity to thank our patients for their
continued support. We look forward to providing for your
healthcare needs for many years to come. Through the Suggestion
Box located in Reception or online Patient Surveys, please let us
know how we can further help the health of our local community by
providing the quality care you deserve.
