We ordered 1500 vaccines which have now arrived. For most people, seasonal flu is unpleasant but not serious and they recover within a week. However, certain people are at greater risk of developing serious complications of flu, such as bronchitis and pneumonia. They may require hospital treatment. A large number of elderly people die from flu every winter. The seasonal flu vaccine is offered free of charge to these at-risk groups to protect them from catching flu and developing complications. The Department of Health recommends that anyone with one or more of the following medical conditions should ensure that they receive annual protection against flu: Are over 65 Have a serious medical condition Chronic (long term) respiratory disease such as COPD , severe asthma or bronchitis Chronic heart disease such as heart failure Chronic kidney disease Chronic liver disease Chronic neurological disease such as Parkinson’s disease or motor neurone disease Diabetes or A weakened immune system due to disease such as HIV / AIDS or treatment (such as cancer treatment) Live in a residential nursing home Are the main Carer for an elderly or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if you fall ill Are a healthcare or social care professional directly involved in patient care pregnant women not in the high-risk groups children aged between 2years to under 5years of age Initially, dedicated Flu Clinics for these patients will be held on the First Floor at St .David’s Family Practice, on the following dates: Saturday 4 October 2014 9.00am – 11.15am Saturday 11 October 2014 9.00am – 11.15am Saturday 8 November 2014 9.00am – 11.15am Patient Survey 2014 Age UK Runnymede and Spelthorne (Age UK R&S) is a local charity which aims to support local people aged 50+ by delivering a variety of services and activities.
