Equest Elections 2008, MacN 113 5:30pm, March 19th Nominees: VP Western My name is Bronwyn MacDonald, and I will be going into 3rd year next year. I am interested in running for the VP Western position. I think I would be a good candidate for this position because I am well organized, and I am currently taking Western lessons. I have been taking Western lessons through the university for 3 semesters now. I really enjoy the experience and I am interested in becoming more involved with the club. As for a little history, I am 20 years old, and I have been riding for 14 years. I dont have my own horse, I had to sell her before school. I am planning on buying another horse as soon as I can afford it. Thanks so much, Bronwyn MacDonald Secretary Hey, my name is Christine Parker I’m a second year animal biology student here at the University of Guelph and I’ve been a member of the Equestrian Club for two years. I've been riding for fourteen years, six of which have been spent eventing. And I have spent most of my years eventing with my Trakehner/QH cross at the Entry and Pre-training levels with plans to move up to Training this year. I believe I would be a good candidate for the position of Secretary because I have been able to make it out to the majority of club meetings in the past two years and I am quick and prompt with sending things to the appropriate people. I can also write fairly quickly by hand and type even faster on the computer so I would be able to catch most of what is said in the meetings and condense it into an easy to read format. I would love to be part of the executive and be an even more integral part of the club. As a member I have made it out to several of the club activities such as the intra-club shows, trick-or-eat, riding lessons etc. and I have had lots of fun doing so, I believe it would be great to be part of the team that helps make those things happen. Thank you for the consideration. Hunter Coordinator (2 Positions) Hello. My name is Stacy Cook and I would like to run for Hunter Coordinator. I have been taking lessons for four years now but have been around and riding horses since I was five. At the moment I am taking hunter lessons with Linda Hale at Old Orchard farm through the equestrian club. If it weren't for this club I wouldn't have been able to ride at all during my university experience. I would like to help run and inform others of the opportunities the equestrian club has. I don't want others to miss out on this amazing opportunity. I have met many people that take hunter lessons and have gotten to talk to them about what their opinions are about the shows, they way things are run and what they are interested in doing. I think I would be a good candidate for Hunter coordinator because I myself am interested in finding out what interests others have and would like to be able to make some of those things happen or at least let their ideas be heard by the exec. I would like to be able to pass on these ideas and interests that the riders have so that these things can be put into action. It is always interesting to hear the ideas that people have and even better when I can actually do something to make those ideas become realities. This way I will be able to be more involved in the equestrian club. I will also get an idea of what the roles and obligations the VP Hunter position are and will be well prepared for that position if I chose to run for it in the future. Thanks. -Stacy Cook I am Jackie Henderson. I am currently in second year at University of Guelph studying animal science in agricultural sciences. I hope to get into the Ontario Veterinary College in my fourth year to become an equine veterinarian. I would be a good candidate for hunter coordinator because I have extensive experience and knowledge in showing hunters. I grew up on a horse farm in London, ON, so I have been riding from before I can even remember. I have shown at the Royal Winter Fair almost every year since I was 12 ranging from small ponies all the way up to Jump Canada medal and adult amateurs. I am hard working, organized, and overall just love horses. I showed in the OUEA and intra club show this year finishing as open champion at the OUEA finals. I know what the shows are about and how things run, and want to play a more active role in the club by becoming a hunter coordinator. Thanks, Jackie Henderson VP Hunter My name is Jenny Bodera. I am a 2nd year Applied science student, majoring in Adult Development. I am on the club executive this year and would like to be representing hunter riders as VP Hunter next year. I have had over 10 years of experience in the horse industry, and more specifically in the hunter discipline. I have competed extensively on the Trillium and more recently on the “A” circuit with my leased hunter. This fall will be my fifth semester taking lessons at Old Orchard farm. I know Linda, the facility, and the horses very well and would be quite capable of overseeing lessons and the intraclub shows hosted there. Having assisted the Intraclub co-ordinator this year, I know what it takes to make the shows run smoothly. Having competed on the OUEA circuit this year and being the co-ordinator and primary organizer of the hunter IHSA team, I feel I have the knowledge and experience to make both successful. VP Communications Hey guys! My name is Jane Moore and I would like to run for VP Communications. I have been riding since I was in grade 7 and am completely horse obsessed. It's the only sport I partake in so it's a very close-toheart and important part of my life. I'm a second year BSc. Biomed student. I grew up in Stratford, Ontario and I rode at a small barn outside of Mitchell. I ride English and I am doing hunter/jumper right now but I originally started out in dressage for formal lessons and western at camp. This has given me experience in most disciplines. I only rode with the club this year, but I have loved every moment of it. I love photography/videography, and I try to get out to the shows just so I can watch and take pics. I also love web design so I sometimes design websites for fun (it's a really good procrastination technique). I love organizing events and I already have so many great ideas for the club, especially for O-Week! I would like to see more of this clubs presence during orientation week and as your VP of Communications, I would love to help make it happen. That being said, I would also accept a position as hunter coordinator seeing as I really really REALLY want to be on the exec next year. Anyways, I look forward to hearing when elections are! Jane Moore Hi, My name is Gillian Priske and I am running for VP Communications. I am currently an animal biology student and I have been riding for 14 years now. I have competed in hunters and jumpers, but also take a keen interest in western and dressage. I have been made aware of our new alliance with Guelph Equine and think if we work together we can better both of our clubs. I have been on the Equestrian club's executive for a full term now and have been an active member for two years showing IHSA, OUEA and organizing and competing in the intra-club shows. I am honest, reliable and I know how things are run on the executive and am looking forward to planning new events and collaborating with Guelph Equine. Thanks PLEASE COME OUT TOMORROW NIGHT AND VOTE, AND DON’T FORGET TO GET YOUR BANQUET TICKETS!
