Teacher Notes
By: Mrs. Medley
With the holiday season quickly approaching, we will all be hustling and bustling soon.
While you are out and about don’t forget to keep working in Reading and Math into your
everyday lives. A few ways you can do that this season is to have your student read the grocery
list to you at the store or have them read your favorite recipes out loud. With cooking,
students will get lots of math exposure. Cutting recipes in half or doubling them would be
great! You could also have them help with the Holiday budget and make a wish list that meets
that budget. To keep up on their writing, have them help you compose a letter to include in
Christmas cards that tells a summary of what has happened in the last year for your family. Or
you could have them write a letter to Santa or to telling you what they want this year. Have
them give lots of supporting reasons of why they deserve that gift, why it would be a good use
of money, etc. To keep them up on their science, you can discuss the type of tree you will put
up by asking: Is it deciduous or coniferous? How can you tell? What biome might you find that
tree?
We will be having our holiday parties on December 20th around 12:30 and we would be
happy for you to join us! We will do a Medley/Brookshire Team party and it will be great! I
can’t wait!!
In Math we will be focusing on fractions and decimals for this entire quarter. Please take
this opportunity to point out fractions anytime you see them or use them at home or at work. I
feel that it is very important for the students to see how frequently we use fractions outside
of the classroom. I have also been uploading math notes as I get pictures taken of them
(usually from when someone is out). With that in mind, anytime your student is out, if you want
a copy of the notes, either have them ask, or send me an email! Mrs. Medley’s class won our
First in Math competition and enjoyed their bagels & juice this week. I am looking at starting a
new competition soon. If you have any ideas/suggestions please feel free to share!
