Attainment levels in literacy are above national norms. Pupils display very positive attitudes towards literacy. Pupils are exposed to a wide variety of reading texts. Pupils have good word attack skills and read with fluency. Strategies to develop Comprehension need to be agreed at a whole school level and used to aid the progression of Literacy. The teaching of the writing process needs to be further developed throughout the school. An improvement in oral language skills is required Our Focus Comprehension strategies to improve literacy Targets 85% of pupils will achieve an average reading score (a standard score of 90%) or above. 60% of pupils improve personal reading standards by at least 5 standard points. Pupils demonstrate that they understand what they have read by being able to answer questions on books read. Pupils can demonstrate use of comprehension strategies across many curricular areas. Pupils can use a dictionary/reference to find out meanings. Pupils read more library books at their own reading standard and report that they enjoy reading. All pupils tested on Renaissance “Star Test”. 95% of pupils have read at least 10 library books and undertaken quizzes on them. 90% of pupils have earned at least 10 points on Renaissance Accelerated Reading programme.
