Recycling Details for Penn Township
Hours of Operation: Dawn to Dusk 7 days a week
 This is a FREE service provided to residents, businesses and neighboring communities without facilities.
 The second Saturday recyclers will still be assisted by Boy Scout Troop 419 for those who prefer a little help.
 Bins will remain onsite 7 days a week. Shown below is the setup and a brief description of what material will go in
indicated sections. (further details of each bin on reverse)
 Residents will have the freedom to use site at their leisure unless the site is abused. Misuse of the bins will result in
the bins being locked and accessibility limited.
 Penn Township has one of the best reputations at LCRMS (Lycoming County Resource Management Services) for
sending high-quality loads. A pat on the back for our residents! Let’s keep up the good work!
 Lighting and security cameras will also be used to monitor the site and violators will be prosecuted.
Some of the Basic Rules to Recycle by:
 Any and all materials must be clean and dry.
 Food waste in or on any recyclable material is a contaminant and NOT accepted.
 Any chemical, oil and antifreeze containers are contaminants and not allowed.
 No strings, tape or plastic bags allowed.
 All containers used to bring your materials must go home with you.
 NO lids on any glass material. (put these metal lids with steel cans)
 YES to lids on any #1 and #2 plastic bottles or jugs, they are now OK, reattach to containers.
Loose lids are a problem when trying to bundle plastics.
 Lids from tin cans are OK and should be included in the tin bi-metal, steel bin.
 Labels are OK on all plastics and tin cans.
 Wasted space is always an issue but it doesn’t take much to compact or flatten plastics.
 Returning the lid will help keep plastics compacted.
 Our new setup will allow for bins to be emptied only when full.
 All boxes whether corrugated cardboard or chipboard (cereal type) boxes must be broken down.

What to do with:
CFL’s – Lowes Home Improvement
Center does have a bin for these
bulbs. Bulbs should be in a plastic
bag! Also, all Friedman Electric
stores, - local address - 1000 N. High
Street, Selinsgrove.
Medical Waste: Household medical
waste including needles can be
placed in a secure container with the
lid taped and disposed of in the trash.
Never flush medical waste.
Plastic Shopping Bags: Nearly all
stores have bins to collect these
bags. Other recyclable plastics
allowed with the shopping bags are
the wrappers from toilet tissue, paper
towels, clean bread bags, dry
cleaning bags.
Pizza Boxes: Consider this – why not
take the lid off and recycle if it’s
clean? 1/2 a pizza box recycled is
better than no pizza box recycled!

Bin detail for Recycling in Penn Township
Bin #1 - This bin is divided into THREE sections and all glass will be collected in this bin.
NO more barrels for the green and blue glass.
:
1. Brown Glass: bottles and jars only, NO dishes
2. Green and Blue Glass: bottle and jars only, NO dishes
3. Clear Glass: bottles and jars only, NO dishes or window glass
*No lids on any glass bottles or jars! All metal lids can go in the steel bin.
*Labels are OK on all glass!
Bin #2 – This bin has THREE sections
1. Tin and Bimetal Cans – clean and dry with labels and lids.
2. Tin and Bimetal Cans – clean and dry with lids and labels.
3. Tin and Bimetal Cans – clean and dry with lids and labels.
Bin #3 –This bin has TWO divisions.
1. Magazines and Catalogs – are made of a higher grade paper then junk mail and flyers and they are
typically NOT glued. NO glued material in this bin! Any and all glued bindings go in Bin #4.
2. Newsprint – clean, dry, no strings, no tape, no plastic bags. If you separate the glossies from your
newspaper these shall go in with the magazines in the other end of this bin.
Bin #4 – Corrugated Cardboard, Chipboard, Junk Mail, Books, Phonebooks, High Grade Office and Shredded Paper.
YES…ALL IN THE SAME BIN!
Clean and dry……always!
NO dirty greasy used pizza boxes! (If the lid happens to be clean and food residue, remove
and include in this bin.
Please break all boxes down, large or small!
Chipboard preferred term by LCRMS, a.k.a. pasteboard, includes beer
and soda cases, cereal boxes and any similar dry food packaging,
packaging from computer software/games, paper towel and toilet
paper rolls, nearly everything purchased has some amount of chipboard.
Also, paper used for packaging and shipping and frozen dinner boxes.
Junk Mail anything arriving in your mailbox, all envelopes and enclosures,
political ads and flyers. Window envelopes OK. One exception – NO BUBBLE MAILERS
(Bubble material is a contaminate to this bin)
Books - any and all books with glued binding - whether soft or hard cover.
Phonebooks - bindings are glued and therefore belong in this Bin #4 w/ items above.
Shredded Paper – Any paper you shred must go here, bagged.
All High Grade Office Paper
Bin #5 - #1 and #2 Plastics
Plastics must be a bottle or jug only! Clean and dry. Lids are OK!
Compress and replace lid if possible to save valuable space.
No Flowerpots and No Deli Containers…Bottles and Jugs Only!
