Fortifiber and Ecovative Introduce Environmentally-Friendly Insulated Sheathing
Fernley, NV, January 22, 2014 - Fortifiber Building Systems Group® and Ecovative Design LLC introduce
MycoFiber™, a rigid foam sheathing that’s as innovative as it is environmentally-friendly. MycoFiber is a
naturally grown insulation which combines crop waste and mycelium and a Fortifiber weather wrap to
produce an environmentally-responsible alternative to plastic foam based insulated sheathing.
This innovative biomaterial is high performance and cost effective, and provides comparable insulating
performance and structural support as EPS, while avoiding harmful chemicals.
MycoFiber’s core is made up of Ecovative’s technology which is Cradle to Cradle CertifiedCM Gold, a
certification mark licensed by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute. A water-resistive layer
of Super Jumbo Tex® 60 Minute building paper is bonded to the insulation for weather protection.
Completing the MycoFiber construction is a back panel of FortiBoard™ for added structural strength.
MycoFiber insulated sheathing can be used on new construction or retrofits for continuous insulation, or
to meet deep energy retrofit goals. Continuous insulation increases thermal performance without any
thermal bridging, and MycoFiber also delivers a continuous air barrier for greater energy efficiency.
The natural insulation board achieves a Class A fire rating without any fire retardant chemicals. And
unlike many plastic foams, the aged R-value of MycoFiber insulated sheathing will not decrease over
time.
The product will be introduced at the International Builders’ Show, February 4-6, in Booth C9327 and
will be available for sale this summer.
