OTs who have attended a foundation course in seating (e.g. SeatTech Seating Assessment & Solutions Level 1 training, or equivalent), or who can demonstrate suitable expertise and knowledge equivalent to this. Course Presenters: Seat Tech, Enable Ireland. Presenters are from Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Clinical Engineering background. Aidan McGarry, Senior Occupational Therapist, SeatTech, Enable Ireland, Dublin. Aidan graduated in 1993 from Queen Margaret College, Edinburgh as an Occupational Therapist. Since then he has worked in both community and hospital-based settings with children and adults. Based now in SeatTech Enable Ireland, Aidan has a keen interest in the direct provision of specialised seating and mobility and also in the provision of SeatTech’s seating training modules for health professionals and consumers of specialised seating and mobility products. Chandra Panda, Senior Physiotherapist, SeatTech, Enable Ireland, Dublin. Chandra graduated in 1995 from NIRTAR, India 1995 and obtained his post graduate in 1999 from GNDU, India as a physiotherapist. Since then, he has worked in various settings both clinical and teaching. Having 19 years of clinical and teaching experience as a physiotherapist in Ireland and India, Chandra is involved in direct service provision to service users with specialised seating and mobility needs, and in training to other health professionals and stake holders. John Tiernan, Service Co-ordinator & Senior Clinical Engineer, SeatTech, Enable Ireland, Dublin. John’s introduction to the field of posture and mobility came through undergraduate work at the Royal Hospital Donnybrook in 1998. This led to an MEngSc, the subject of which was wheelchair design. Since completing this in 2001, John has worked as Clinical Engineer for Enable Ireland SeatTech, NovitaTech Adelaide, and the RBWH Brisbane Rehabilitation Engineering Centre (Australia). John participates in wheelchair seating research, design and transport safety research, contributing to International Standards on these topics. Course Objectives This complex seating course is relevant to any occupational therapist who conducts seating assessment for individuals with complex physical disability as a component of their clinical role. This training is designed to help participants: Enhance their understanding of the physical and functional parameters that need to be considered as part of the assessment and provision process Use a comprehensive battery of assessment tools/tasks to evaluate need. Evaluate assessment findings to develop objectives with the client. Translate the assessment findings into product parameters. Participate actively in the Seating Assessment process, taking a leadership role as required. Promote best practice. Course Content The workshop will have a mix of theory and practical sessions and include: • Biomechanics of seating • Advanced concepts on the influence and management of primitive reflexes • Hands-on assessment with an individual with complex need. • Advanced linear measurements for specification of complex seating solutions. • Pressure management and the influence of posture on body-seating interface pressure distributions. • Assessment and analysis of the influence of pain. • Equipment solutions for complex presentations including custom-made seating solutions • Risk management • Principles of transport safety and the application of same • Introduction to Outcome Measurement in the provision of seating How to Apply?
