DISPOSAL OF LATEX PAINTS

Starting in 2008 the Gloucester County Household Hazardous cleanup program will NO LONGER ACCEPT any latex paint. Only oil based paint will be accepted at the county program, so please do not bring any latex paint or you will have to take it home. There are solutions to help if you follow the easy directions below. Remember no municipalities are going to have any special collection times for paint so please take the time to read these simple directions.

Buy only what you need : Measure your room and your sales person will help you purchase the right amount, eliminating any waste.

Apply a second coat: This not only gives better protection, but will help use more paint. If you still have some left, ask friends, relatives, churches, shelters, community centers, etc. if they may need it.

NEVER POUR OLD UNUSED PAINT DOWN THE DRAIN OR SEWER!!!!!!

Franklin Township will ONLY accept latex paint (water based) by following these simple steps:

1.

Make sure your paint can is half full or less. If it’s more than half, pour excess into another container.

2.

Now, add kitty litter, speedy dry, or saw dust shavings, and stir. Add enough to thicken paint. DO NOT put lid back on.

3.

This mixture must dry completely and be in a solid state!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4.

You may now and only now place the whole paint can in your automated trash cart.

5.

PLEASE DO NOT DISPOSE OF ANY PAINT IN LIQUID FORM , it will make a mess of Township equipment and your neighborhood. If you have any questions please call the Township Public Works at 694-3155.
