Saint Francis himself said “I lived in sin” during that time.
2. How did Saint Francis practice true equality?
Francis practiced true equality by showing honor, respect, and love to every person
weather they were a beggar or a pope.
3. What did Francis try to do with poverty?
Francis did not try to abolish poverty he tried to make it holy.
4. How did Saint Francis respond to blindness and suffering?
During his blindness and suffering Saint Francis wrote his Canticle of the Sun, which
expresses his brother hood with creation in praising God.
5. How did Francis feel about nature? Why?
Francis felt that nature; all of God’s creations were part of his brotherhood.
6. Why is October 4 Saint Francis’ feast day?
On October 4, 1226, St. Francis died at the age of 45. This is the day that his feast rests
on.
7. Why do followers of St. Francis wear the tau cross?
Followers wear the tau cross as an exterior sign a “seal” of their own commitment, a
remembrance of the victory of Christ over evil through daily self- sacrificing love. The sign
of contradiction has become the sign of hope a witness of fidelity until the end of our lives.

The Canticle of the Sun is a prayer Saint Francis wrote during his suffering and,
blindness. He wrote it as a prayer of the thanks and praise to the Lord, for everything he has
done and given us.
