CONWAY UCD Conway Institute of Biomolecular and Biomedical Research is a multidisciplinary centre for research funded by an initiative of the Irish Higher Education Authority; the Programme for Research in Third Level Institutions. In the last eight years, we have provided incubation space for campus companies such as Berand Neuropharmacology, Alltracel and Enzolve Technologies as well as laboratory facilities for Wyeth Research Ireland and the National Institute for Bioprocessing Research & Training. Our core technology facilities have been used as a beta testing centre for Accuri Cytometers and reference centre for Denator protein stabilising technology. The flow cytometry facility won a worldwide competition for the best application developed for an Accuri Cytometer, and its Head, Dr Alfonso Blanco, was awarded a prize including free instrumentation for the facility. Many Conway Fellows have active research collaborations with companies such as Boehringer Ingelheim Pharma, Merrion Pharma, Riken, Sigmoid Pharma while larger research clusters and centres have defined relationships with companies such as Servier, Ark Therapeutics, Hewlett Packard, Agilent Technologies, Siemens Ireland and Protagen AG. With the formation of the TCD-UCD Innovation Alliance, Conway Innovations was established to provide local support to our researchers in order to capture and evaluate new ideas, facilitate the commercialisation process and provide a link to central University structures for innovation; the Innovation Academy and Nova UCD. Through Conway Innovations, we aim to continue building and strengthening relationships with our partner pharma and medical technology industries and facilitate a culture of innovation within the Institute. We are committed to playing our role in the development of a world-class ecosystem for innovation that will drive enterprise development in Ireland into the future.
