E-Waste Drop-Off Event Nets Over 70 Tons Pleasanton residents lined up early on November 22, 2003 to participate in Pleasanton’s first Electronic Waste Recycling Drop Off Event sponsored by the City of Pleasanton and Pleasanton Garbage Service, Inc. The event, which drew more than 1,200 cars and collected over 5,200 pieces of equipment, exceeded everyone’s expectations. In the United States alone, 20 million or more PC’s become obsolete each year, meaning that more than 315 million computers will have to be disposed of by 2004. Cathode ray tubes (CRT) and other electronic equipment are banned from landfills due to the heavy toxic levels of lead and other heavy metals such as barium and cadmium found in the CRT glass. All E-Waste dropped off at the free event was transported to a local recycler who will reuse or recycle the electronic equipment. If you missed this event you can always bring your electronic equipment such as computers, printers, fax machines and TV’s to the Pleasanton Transfer Station, 3110 Busch Road and safely dispose of these items. Please let the gatekeeper know if you are disposing of any of these items and you will be directed to a separate drop-off area. Fees are based on the item(s) brought in and cannot be quoted over the phone. The Transfer Station is open 7 days a week from 8 AM to 4 PM
