M-A Andrusyszyn welcomed the Executive and Committee members and presented a gift to Cathie Walker in appreciation of her leadership during her term as President. Carroll Iwasiw offered to take minutes. 2. The minutes of the June 28, 2006 meeting were adopted as circulated 3. Business arising: A) School in Saudi Arabia: Cathie spoke with the Dean of Health Sciences at the Saudi School and he is supportive of the development of a STTI chapter. Mary-Anne will renew the Iota Omicron’s offer of help if they wish to become a chapter. Cathie is willing to be involved and will call them. B) Wall of fame: Cathie will call Nothers. The hope is to have something in place that could be used for fundraising at induction. C) Orientation manual: Should contexualize the materials that are on the STTI website. Need volunteer to take this on. There is a site for Region 10 on the STTI website. Mary-Anne will locate and circulate it. D) Community initiative: There was agreement that we should have a global initiative in response to STTI strategic directions (Rwanda this year) and a local initiative. Sherry proposed that Madame Vanier Centre for Children could use support and she will provide further information. E) Professional auditor: Bonnie will secure an auditor. F) Signing authority: Cathie Walker and Bonnie Wright need to sign off at the bank. Mary-Anne Andrusyszyn and Marilyn Ott need to become official signing officers for chapter. The members involved will attend to this. This was a huge success and the program committee was congratulated for its hard work. Having a draw was positively received. Buffet style dinner was favored. If these numbers continue, Spencer’s Parlour might be an site to consider. H) 15th International Nursing Conference on the Nursing Network of Violence Against Women International (NNVAWI) chaired by Helene Berman and Marilyn Ford-Gilboe to be held October 18-20, 2007. Title: Complexities and Diversities: Creating Change in a Global Context”. Iota Omicron will support his workshop. New Business: A) Report from STTI Chapter Leaders Academy: Bonnie, Yolanda and Mary-Anne attended the leadership academy in Indianapolis September 28-30, 2006. i. There was a meeting with Carol Picard, in which she offered to come to London. ii. Yolanda reported that Region 10 agreed to collect books and materials for the Central Hospital of Kigali, which she had visited in August. B.) Other ideas arising from the Academy: a. That the chapter take on the creation of a Serenity Garden at the School of Nursing. Yolanda will form a committee. Information in about this will be placed in the upcoming newsletter. b. That we continue our 20th anniversary celebrations at Homecoming & link with Alumni for planning. Discussion focused on recommitment of all members (active and inactive), perhaps with a re-cording ceremony. Volunteers will be recruited through the upcoming newsletter. c. That we consider a more lavish Induction, which could include dinner for family and friends. d. That we include students in our activities early in the nursing program, mentoring them before they become members. e. That the President-Elect could take on the preparation of the Chapter Key Award material. (Region 10 was the only region not to receive any awards at the Leadership Academy.) 5. Committee and Task Force Reports A) Governance and Bylaws: No report B) Leadership Succession: M. Evans will re-establish this committee and will put a message into the next newsletter. There are 369 active and 689 inactive members. C. Shavalier will send a letter or email to newly inactive members. C) Newsletter: Karen Ferguson and Richard Booth are preparing the newsletter and request that materials be submitted. D) Program: Bookings for the Fall Dinner have been made at Windermere for the next 5 years; Bookings have also been made for the Research Conference at Lamplighter for the next 3 years. Induction is November 12. Consideration will be given to making the event more lavish in the future. E) Research and Awards: The committee will meet to consider the applications for research awards F) Treasurer: M. Ott will meet with B. Wright for the transfer of records. G) Heritage: No report. 6. Other: Discussion centered on ways to involve Fanshawe College faculty more. Possibly a meeting could be held there.
