Residential Life
Dear Student Staff Applicant:
Residential Life is hiring staff for the summer 2013 and 2013-2014 academic year. We believe
encouraging and selecting well-skilled individuals to be part of our staff will serve the best interest of
the residents and the Department of Residential Life. Every position listed is an excellent opportunity
for you to be an integral part of our community. In any of these positions, you will have the ability to
develop your building, your community, your staff, and YOURSELF!
We are looking for individuals that are serious about the positions and can define and articulate their
motivation, expectations, and desire for learning. It is important for you to demonstrate competence in
all areas of the job and have the willingness and ability to perform at a high level. These positions may
not be right for everyone, so we recommend that you consider your qualifications and interests before
you apply.
The Student Staff Selection Process for the summer and academic year will be determined by the
position for which you are applying. Selection of applicants for positions operates on a two tier-process:


Tier One: Application Process
Candidates will be evaluated on the completed application. A completed application includes
attending an information session, observing staff working the community desk, and shadowing
an RA on rounds in the community. Consideration will also be given to your responses to the
essay questions and your prior experience. The quality of your application and experiences will
determine if you are invited to participate in the second tier of our process.
Tier Two: Interview Process
Candidates will be interviewed in an individual interview setting and a group processing session.
Individual interviews will last approximately 45 minutes, while group process sessions last
approximately 90 minutes, and are facilitated by an appropriate supervising staff member. If
you are applying for and of the Resident Assistant positions, your 45-minute interview will most
likely include current student staff members. If you are applying for multiple positions, you will
be required to schedule multiple individual interviews for each position in which you are
applying.
Attached, you will find a copy of the Student staff “One App” application for the up-coming academic
year. In addition, you will also find a Check-off Sheet to assist you in the completing all portions of the
process. The check-off sheet will need to be attached to the top of your application.
Please feel free to contact Jonathan Jacklitch or Patrick Mc Fall at reslife@sfsu.edu should you have
any questions or scheduling conflicts. We look forward to meeting you during the process. Good luck!
Respectfully,
Residential Life Staff
