As soon as you know you are going to miss Marketing II (field trip, college day, etc.) it is your responsibility to notify the teacher and be certain the absence gets recorded in the attendance book. It is also your responsibility to request assignments you will miss.
We will be attending DECA conferences and have marketing-related field trips throughout the school year.
It is your responsibility to inform your academic teachers and get all assignments before you are absent because of a field trip. You may be denied field trip privileges if an academic teacher feels your grade will suffer if his/her class is missed.
All DECA conferences have a registration fee that must be paid in advance. Provided funds are available, these registration fees will be paid from our activity account. You are expected to attend these
conferences. Failure to attend may result in you reimbursing our activity account for the cost of your registration.

Community activities and DECA functions will require professional attire. For guys, this means dress pants with belt (no cargo pants), long-sleeved dress shirt, tie, and dress shoes (no tennis shoes). For girls, a suit is preferred. Options include a skirt or pants with a conservative blouse/sweater and closed-toe shoes.
Facial piercings and tattoos are not widely accepted in the business world. Students will be expected to cover tattoos and remove piercings before participating in DECA activities and contests.
Students are expected to make good choices that will result in a positive learning environment for everyone. Poor choices will result in disciplinary action by the instructor and/or school administration.
The seriousness of the incident will determine the course of action that will be taken. Minor incidents may result in a discussion between the student and teacher, a telephone call to the student’s parent/guardian and/or a teacher detention. More serious or repeat incidents will result in the matter being referred to the student’s principal.
Grades will be calculated using points received for projects, assignments, activities, quizzes, and tests. All grades will be posted to ProgressBook in a timely manner. Please regularly monitor ProgressBook so you know what your grade is and if you have missing assignments. The standard FHS grading scale will be used:

What Does “DECA” Stand For?
DECA International Career Development Conference
(Only for students who qualified at the Ohio DECA Career Development Conference will attend.)
Years ago, “DECA” was an acronym for Distributive Education Clubs of America. When the Department of
Education changed the program name from Distributive Education to Marketing, the organization for high school marketing students continued to be DECA because the name was well-known and widelyrecognized.
When someone asks you, “What is DECA?” tell them…
“DECA is the organization for students enrolled in Marketing classes. It prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.”

Membership in Millstream DECA provides opportunities for overnight trips to state and international career development conferences. By participating in fundraising activities, students earn points that can be redeemed for dollars. These dollars are used to help cover the student’s conference expenses.
It is a policy of Millstream DECA that students receiving either ISA (in-school assignment) or OSS (out-of
school suspension) during the school year they are enrolled in Marketing I may be banned from participating in overnight conference trips.
Each student will be responsible for maintaining a record of points earned and points possible (see
“Millstream DECA Fundraiser Points Earned” form on page 6). It is vital that these records be kept neat, readable, and up-to-date. Failure to receive advisor validation within 48 hours after the completion of an activity will result in the points being forfeited.
The following percentages, which are never rounded up, are necessary to participate in the sharing of money towards a conference trip. PLEASE NOTE: A full share does not necessarily mean the entire trip is
paid for. The dollar value of a share depends on several things such as the cost of the trip, how many students participate, and the DECA activity account balance.
Points Earned
76-100% of total points possible = Full Share
51-75% of total points possible = Half Share
31-50% of total points possible = No share, but may pay own way and participate
0-30% of total points possible = May not participate in conference trip
Ohio DECA Career Development Conference (March):
One-fourth (1/4) of the DECA activity account balance will be used to calculate full and half shares for the
Ohio DECA Career Development Conference. The cost to attend the Ohio DECA Career Development
Conference is approximately $150 per student.
FOR EXAMPLE: If $2000 is available in our DECA activity account, $500 of that balance would be made available to students attending the Ohio DECA Career Development Conference. If five students qualified
to attend the conference and three of the students had earned full shares and two had earned half shares, the money would be divided as follows:
FULL SHARE: $500 times 60% (3 divided by 5
percentage of students with full shares) = $300 divided among three eligible students = $100 per student.
HALF SHARE: $500 times 40% (2 divided by 5 percentage of students with half shares) = $200 divided by two (to figure half share amount) = $50 per student
DECA International Career Development Conference (April/May):
The cost to attend the DECA International Career Development Conference is dependent upon many factors such as location and cost of airfare, but an approximate cost is $850 per student.
After expenses for the Ohio DECA Career Development Conference have been deducted, three-fourths of the remaining balance in the DECA activity account will be used to determine share amounts for the DECA
International Career Development Conference.
FOR EXAMPLE: If the remaining balance in the DECA activity account is $1600, three-fourths (3/4) of that
5 amount would be $1200. If three students were attending the DECA International Career Development
Conference and two had full shares and one had a half share, the money would be divided as follows:
FULL SHARE: $1200 times 66% (2 divided by 3 percentage of students attending with full shares)
= $792 divided by two eligible students = $396 per student
HALF SHARE: $1200 times 33% (1 divided by 3
percentage of students attending with half shares)
= $396 divided by two (to figure half share amount) = $198 per student
The value of a full share or half share will never exceed the actual cost of the trip
Percentages will never be rounded up
Payment to DECA for conference expenses will be paid from our activity account. Each participating student will be responsible for reimbursing our DECA activity account for his/her portion of the trip by the established due date. Failure to pay by the due date will result in an “Unpaid Fee” being added to the student’s school fee account. Students will not receive diplomas until all fees have been paid.
Failure to attend a conference you are registered for will result in you reimbursing our activity account for the cost of your registration, transportation, accommodations, and any other misc. expenses incurred on your behalf, by the established due date.
Our main fundraiser will take place in the fall. The advisor may add fundraising projects as necessary.
Students will be notified when, and if, changes are made.
