SURFACE PREPARATION AND TYPES OF PAINT TO USE
SURFACE PREPARATION
TERRA COTTA, TILE, METAL: Surface must be clean and free of oil prior to
painting. Wash and dry your item, then rub with a 50/50 mixture of rubbing
alcohol and water. (Use FolkArt® OutdoorTM Paint.)
GLAZED CHINA AND CERAMICS: Wash with mild dish detergent and warm
water. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Wipe with rubbing alcohol removing all residue
(oil, soap, etc.) Allow alcohol to dry. Do not touch the surface as ANY oil (even
from fingers) can prevent paint from bonding to surface. (Use FolkArt®
EnamelsTM Paint.)
WOOD: Sand wood with a medium grade sandpaper until smooth. Finish with
fine grade to smooth wood. No need to seal wood when using FolkArt® Acrylic
Colors. (Use FolkArt® OutdoorTM Paint for outdoors and FolkArt® Acrylic Paint
for indoors.)
CANVAS: Use pre-primed canvas, OR prime with 1-2 coats of gesso. (Use
FolkArt® Acrylic Paint.)
PAINT
FolkArt® Acrylic Paint: Practically any indoor surface (other then listed below).
FolkArt® EnamelsTM: To paint on glass or glazed ceramics.
FolkArt® OutdoorTM Paint: To paint on rusted metal, uncoated metal,
enameled metal, galvanized tin, wood, terra cotta, concrete, brick, slate.
