1 MUSIC WEB-QUEST Introduction The Music Department is sponsoring the big social event of the season. The theme is Music Through the Ages. You are to research music from the Medieval Times up to the early 1900’s. Each historical time must be represented (Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Impressionism, and Modern). The Task The class has been asked to use the internet to research each of the time periods. A team will be assigned one of the time periods. Each team will act as a planning committee for the events for their specific time period. For the social event, the gym, cafeteria, and the auditorium will be used. You must decide how to portray your musical style and what location in the school you will show your exhibit. (Hint: it is like planning a big party.) Note: This is a written plan. You will Not actually be doing this, but will get graded on your plans. You will be graded on the facts and your creative ideas to implement the facts. The following must be included: (Divide the tasks with your team members). Everyone will do the survey questions for the Medieval Period in addition to your own time period. Music selections from your time period (Have audible examples or titles and descriptions of the music). Who were some of the most important composers of the time? Describe the characteristics of the music. Describe major changes that took place in the development of music during that period of time. What instruments were popular during this time? o Was there an orchestra? Select musicians to perform the music o These musicians are fictional, but must reflect musicians and groups who lived during the time period. Describe, show pictures, or illustrate the costumes for the entertainers. o Is the music instrumental, vocal, or both? Explain your decorations that represent the time period (this can be done as a picture or a drawing of your ideas) How would you decorate the room to represent that time period? Describe it or make a small model example. 2 What events took place during this time period that may have influenced the music that was being composed and performed? What was the political climate? What were the customs and fashions of this time period? (i.e. clothing styles, food, architecture, etc.) Clothing (as described under musicians - Describe, show pictures, or illustrate the costumes). Create a blueprint or 3D model of your ideas. The design can be presented on paper, video, multimedia format, or another creative method you think of. (creativity, musicianship, costumes, ((dance?)), pictures, videos, role playing, ex. wear a hat or simple costume, wear a sign with the name of a composer Decide and explain where you would set-up for the social event using the gym, cafeteria, and/or auditorium to represent your musical time period. Prepare a presentation which everyone takes a part, to explain all the information from your historical period. The presentation should last at least 8 minutes. Be enthusiastic and energetic in your voice tone during the presentation. Do Not Copy articles from the websites. (This wastes too much printer ink). Copy and Paste important information to “Word”. Then, save onto your files. You will need to save this, so the following days you can retrieve your information. When you are finished obtaining information, you may use “word” to write your report. When your report is completed, you then can print it. Process Day 1 = Read through assignment, complete music history survey, assign tasks to team members, begin web search Day 2 = Continue to do research, Complete worksheets to help gather information See information above about saving work to “word”. Day 3 = Work in Group, finish research Day 4 = Begin Presentations Complete worksheets to gather the correct information. Use resources to complete your findings.
