Overview of resources in the Christmas Assembly Pack (KS2)
This pack is led by an assembly to introduce the festival of Christmas to the whole school (or a class). Pupils
can learn about Christmas in more detail using the information texts (written at two levels) and
comprehension quizzes. After further research, pupils could write their own information sheets on Christmas
using the ‘Writing Template’ interactive.
We’ve added in the Nativity Story (at two reading levels), together with differentiated comprehension quizzes.
The tool ‘Note Refiner’ can be used to make notes as a whole class on a topic – ideal for planning an
information text. The Thoughts, Opinions and Knowledge activity is useful for gathering children’s current
knowledge at the start of a topic or as a review at the end.
For younger pupils, try our Christmas Assembly Pack for KS1.
About Christmas:
Christmas – Assembly Script and Images (Word doc & PPT)
Introduce the festival of Christmas with our full assembly script and slideshow of images.
Christmas – Comprehension Books (Reading Levels B and C) (IWB)
Learn about the Christian festival of Christmas with these colourful interactive books. For
differentiation, Reading Level C has more detailed text and more complex sentences than Reading
Level B. Both books include a comprehension question for each page.
Christmas – Text and Images (Reading Levels B and C) (2 x Word docs)
These documents include text from each of the interactive books (above) as an alternative format for
pupils. Print off to use as a basis for further research into the festival; split up the sections and share
out between small groups of pupils, as a stimulus to find out more.
Christmas – Quizzes (Reading Levels B and C) (2 x Word docs)
These sheets have comprehension questions to assess pupils’ understanding of the topic – written to
accompany the two different reading level texts (above). An answer sheet is at the end of each
document.
About Christmas – Interactive Writing Template (IWB)
After reading the information books, pupils could carry out further research on a chosen aspect of
Christmas. This template is ideal for producing an information text – choose layout, headings,
images and captions. Add labels to highlight parts of the text. Pupils’ work can be printed off (or
saved and edited at a later date – NB re-open existing files from within the program).

The Nativity Story:
The Nativity Story – Comprehension Book (Reading Level B) (IWB)
This story book takes pupils through the main events of the ‘Christmas Story’. A comprehension
question is included for each page (these questions are also included separately as a Word doc).
The Nativity Story – Text and Images (Reading Level B) (Word doc)
This document included text from the interactive book (above) as an alternative format for pupils.
The Nativity Story – Quiz (Reading Level B) (Word doc)
This sheet has comprehension questions to assess pupils’ understanding of the story – written to
accompany the IWB story text (above).
The Nativity – Scene and Story Builder (IWB)
An interactive template for pupils to write and illustrate their own books about the Nativity Story. It
includes scenes, characters and objects for pupils to create their own scenes to illustrate their text.
This tool can be used for publishing a final copy story but we also recommend it is used for a focus
on setting the scene or focusing on a start, middle or end part to a story.

Generic tools:
My Thoughts, Opinions and Knowledge (IWB)
This resource can be used when you would like pupils to state their thoughts or opinions on any
subject. Used in the context of this topic, it works well as a way to capture pupils’ current knowledge,
together with what they would like to find out. The text frames automatically shrink the font as a pupil
types more text - so the resource is suitable for simple statements or longer explanations. Text
frames can be presented as captions, speech bubbles or thought bubbles.
Note Refiner (IWB)
This generic tool allows you to take notes and edit them, before modelling how to construct
sentences from notes. Use this tool to plan out an explanation or information text - adding notes on
the post-its, ordering them and then refining into sentences on the last screen.
