REGISTRATION
The use of standardized testing within the fields of
general education and special education has been
common practice for decades. Individual
standardized tests of academic achievement and
intellectual ability are assisting in the
classification of students with disabilities, and
provide insight into the exact nature of a child’s
strengths and weaknesses.
I plan to attend the June 28, 2013 workshop on
Standardized Testing

Despite the common use of standardize measures,
the results of these tests are often misinterpreted
which can lead to confusion and misrepresentation
of an individual’s needs and abilities. This miniskills workshop reviews the appropriate use of
standardized
measures,
the
meaningful
interpretation of results and the identification of
the limitations of standardized testing. This
workshop will mainly focus on individualized
tests of academic achievement and cognitive
ability. Special emphasis will be placed on the
predictive utility of standardized measures and the
distinction between normative strengths and
weakness versus relative strengths and
weaknesses. You will learn how best to share this
information with parents so that they can develop
a better understanding of their child’s
individualized needs.
Print Information Clearly
This workshop is not intended to review the
administration
of
standardized
measures.
However, common measures of academic
achievement and cognitive ability will be included
throughout this workshop and avoiding common
pitfalls of test administration will be emphasized.
Appropriate report writing will also be reviewed
as part of this training. Examples and handouts
will be provided.
