Brief summary of PI research / research group / centre activity (2 or 3 lines max):
Controllable synthesis of semiconductor nanocrystals, especially nanorods and nanowires, the rational
assembly of solution synthesised nanostructures into 2D and 3D architectures, and development of
nanotechnology applied to photovoltaics
Title & brief description of PhD project (suitable for publication on web):
Controllable synthesis and assembly of quaternary chalcogenides and their photovoltaic application
1. Synthesize quaternary chalcogenides nanorods with controllable morphology
2. Assemble synthesized nanorods into 2D and 3D architectures
3. Fabricate photovoltaic devices and investigate their performance
Unique selling points of PhD project in UL:
It is still a big challenge to get high quality quaternary chalcogenides nanocrystals, which are highly promising
materials for use in sustainable energy such as solar cells. The group led by Dr Kevin Ryan have extensive
expertise in semiconductor nanocrystals have published work in high impact factor journals and at the
Institute have all the large scale equipment necessary for this project.
