The Perfect Moment of Study There is no denying that everyone has unforgettable experience in their lives. Take myself for example. Two years ago, in my summer vacation, I had a great opportunity to participate in the summer study tour to England. Although it lasted only 21 days, it broadened my horizons and knowledge to great extent. Well goes an old saying, “Life is like a journey. “ There were lots of fascinating things around us. My destination was Rochester, which is to the southeast of London. Rochester is an ancient city well-known for its historic buildings. Both Rochester Cathedral and Rochester Castle were located in the county of Kent. Here was also the place where Charles Dickens , who is big shot in literature, lived and wrote his famous book, The Great Expectation. The downtown still preserves the form of Victorian. The buildings and the constructions are also spectacular. It took us almost 18 hours to fly from Taiwan to England. But it was a pity that we arrived in Britain at midnight, so we were very tired and exhausted. Moreover, we stayed at the host family. It was interesting to me because I needed to learn how to get along with the members of the family. I must be polite to everyone in daily life. I was deeply convinced that it was a great opportunity for me to bridge the distance between people. In other words, my host family’s members were all hospitable. They treated us like their children. I took it for granted that they were my dad and my mom. They took us, four students, from Taiwan and Turkey to play the bowling, dining out, shopping, looking the night scene and having a party, etc. We had such a wonderful time that we have decided to visit the place again with the least possible delay. Ever since then, I have found our friendship growing. Most important of all, the purpose to me is to practice my English ability, improving my language skill. Besides, we can get in touch with variety of customs, cultures and lead a life full of pleasure and knowledge. In my opinion, constant practice makes my English better. King’s school Rochester is a great place for us to study. The lesson was emphasized on applied English. It stressed on colloquial language practice, including outdoor recreational activities, social contact. They encouraged students to discuss actively. Every Friday night all the students from different countries had to stage performances under the instruction of teachers. We did enjoy such an activity. I am greatly believed that where there is a will, there is a way. It may enhance our English capability. We arranged some itineraries to visit the tourist resorts or scenic spots like Buckingham palace, Trafalgar Square, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, Parliament House, British Museum, and Royal Greenwich Observatory. Namely, those places experienced us how marvelous it were. I have also been to other three counties, Rye, Hastings, and Canterbury, where were connected with the Second World War. Moreover, Canterbury was particularly the most vital one. Canterbury is a cathedral city in the county of Kent in southeast England. Canterbury is the seat of Archbishop of Canterbury, the primate of the Church of England. Today is a major city for tourism, second only to London. It still contains many ancient buildings and modern development within the medieval town centre is strictly regulated. Not to mention of calling the two well-known and the top universities: Oxford and Cambridge. The towns of Oxford and Cambridge have some of the finest buildings in Britain. They are famous for their universities, the oldest in England. In addition to the U.K., France was also another place for us to visit. The capital of France, Paris, had the most remarkable architectures in the world, including Avenue Des Champs Elysees, Arc de Triomphe, Place de la Concorde Notre-Dame de Paris–Cathedrale, and Palais du Louvre. It was widely known that beautiful tourist spots will relax us. Disney Land was also one of the most joyful places I have been to. When I entered the park, I saw scores of carton characters and recreational facilities that had caught my attention. As far as I am concerned, it was not only meaningful, but also an intellectual journey. Though the length of the trip was only 21 days, I still have learned numerous things that I could never learn in daily life or even a textbook. The trip enriched my life experience. Until now, I am still grateful to High School of THU, my parents, and all of the teachers that had been taught me in these 21 days for offering me this great opportunity to study abroad.
