JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Neurological / Medical Physiotherapist DEPARTMENT: Physiotherapy RESPONSIBLE TO: Physiotherapy Manager SUMMARY OF POSITION: (Overall Objectives) To support the Head of Department (HOD) in providing a neurological, medical and oncology service to physiotherapy patients in patients. To provide a neurological service to physiotherapy out patients. To provide managerial leadership to and work as part of the physiotherapy team. To provide a high standard of physiotherapy assessment, treatment and advice to patients. To lead the development of the neurological and medical physiotherapy service. To lead clinical audit. May undertake research. To undertake all duties in accordance with Customer Care Standards. PRINCIPAL DUTIES: Clinical To undertake specialised assessment and treatment of patients as an autonomous practitioner. Use clinical reasoning skills and knowledge of evidence based practice to determine and manage an appropriate treatment plan. To provide cover for the out patient oncology physiotherapy service when the oncology team leader is absent. November 2010 To provide support and advice to other members of the physiotherapy team with regards to the assessment and treatment of patients with neurological and medical conditions. To maintain a high standard of clinical records and provide written progress and discharge reports for medical colleagues, as required. To liaise with other Departments to ensure a unified approach to patient care. To use specialist knowledge to refer to other health disciplines as appropriate. To maintain patient confidentiality at all times. To participate in the in-service teaching regimes and staff development programmes. To maintain a CPD portfolio reflecting your personal professional development. As team leader take responsibility for the efficient day-to-day management of the neurological physiotherapy in- and out-patient service, including hydrotherapy. To participate in department in-house training/teaching sessions for CPD. To support HOD in marketing of physiotherapy service and upholding clinical standards. To process all reported accidents, complaints and equipment malfunctions in the absence of the HOD and in accordance with hospital policy. Service Development To individually market and promote the Department within the Hospital and the local community To participate in any public/PR events promoting the Department. General To report any equipment malfunctions and identified health and safety hazards to the manager/health and safety manager in accordance with hospital policy. To understand and abide by the Department’s philosophy, policies, procedures and objectives. To attend annual relevant mandatory training. To adhere to The Health and Safety at Work Act. To adhere to Fire Action Policy. To be aware of Disciplinary / Grievance Procedure. To be aware of Company policies and guidelines. To read and sign all policies issued to the department in accordance with the Care Standards Act 2000.
