Deposits of quartz sand “Gorodnoe” are represented by 2 deposits
(Western and Eastern) and are situated in the distance of 3 kilometers to the
North from village Gorodnaya, Stolin district and is 25 kilometers far from
railway station “Goryn”.
The deposits were found in 1974, detailed research of the western
deposits was realized in 1983-1986 by Western group of Belorussian research
expedition on request of the Ministry of building materials of BSSR to provide
glass plants of the republic with raw materials.
On the date of the 1st of January 1987 the supplies of quartz sand as raw
material for glass and passing moulding production of deposits “Gorodnoe”
(Western deposit) contain 15077 thousand tons or 9137,6 thousand meters 3.
Service life of the mine is 72 years with annual productive capacity of
270 thousand tons. Taking into account the kinds of deposits A,B and C,
deposits “Gorodnoe” occupy an area of 90,5 ha. After mining of the 1st
stripping benches the increase of the area of mined deposits will reach 5,2 ha,
including the area of forests which is 83,9 ha.
Quartz sands of deposits “Gorodnoe” have the following chemical
composition: SiO2 -98,7-99,34%; Fe2 О3 -0,08-0,12%; А12 О3 -0,20-0,52%.
According to analyses and tests made by Central Laboratory of BSSR
quartz sands in natural form meat demands of GOST 22551-77 to kinds ВС050-1 (0,22%), С-070-1 (22,12%), С-070-2 (0,12%), Б-100-1 (50,75%), B-1002 (9,25%), PБ-150-1 (17,54%). So it is “quartz sand, ground sandstone,
quartzite and vein quartz for glass industry which is suitable for manufacturing
of bottles, stekloprofilit, glass blocks, glass fiber for electrical engineering,
household utensils, half-white empties, windowpane, tiles.
It is also found out, that it is possible to get after concentration
concentrates of ОВС-020-В and ОВС-025-1 kinds which are suitable for
production of light and alarm glass and glassware for electrical engineering.
That is why when developing the deposits it is appropriate to discuss the
question of production of concentrated sands.
One part of quartz sands in natural form meats demands of GOST 213884 to “Moulding sand” of КРК (3,34 %), К016 (74,17 %), ТО 16 (4,49 %),
КРО (8,605), КО1 (9,40 %) kinds. It means that they are suitable for production
of moulding and core sands when producing large, medium and small steel and
iron castings and also for lining of casting ladles.
According to the report (October 14/1987) of the meeting of State
commission of supplies of natural resources of Council of Ministers of USSR,
“Western sand deposit of “Goryn” quartz sand deposits is considered to be
prepared for commercial development.
