465 SLAUGHTER CATTLE SOLD
YOUNG BULLS TO 236.5p
OTMS TO 222.5p
STEERS TO 258.5p
HEIFERS TO 268.5p
OVERALL AVERAGE LEVELLED AT 208.20p
Bulls - 147 averaged 190.92p
A very decent entry of young bulls in number on offer today, however quality was just about
as bad as it gets with plenty of exceptionally lean sorts on offer.
Trade today was generally easier, although saying that if you had properly finished sorts
trade was decent.
Top bulls today were consigned by Paul Cairns and Frank Ward who both sold to 236.5p,
first Limousin to gross £1499.41 and Blondes to £1409.54. Alwyn Coles sold Limousin to
235.5p - £1363.15 and Robin Smith, Melton Mowbray sold Bazadaise to 233.5p - £1356.64,
Richard Hayes and Lattenbury Farms both sold Limousins to 233.5p - £1356.64 and
£1342.63 respectively.
Top grossing bulls today were consigned by Stuart Dore who sold Blondes to £1813.07,
£1759.80 and £1663.83.
Today best finished suckler bred bulls 225p + with –U grades 216-224p and R grades 206214p and O+’s 197-205p.
Within these grades very lean sorts were discounted by 5-8p.
Today again plenty of Black and Whites and some real horrors, but better fed Friesian types
168-180p, meated Holsteins 156-162p and plainer sorts 144-152p and horrors 130-140p.
I fully appreciate the need for cash flow, however as much as I am on your side Wholesalers
require meat!!

CULL COWS & OTMS – 101 AVERAGED 141.86p or £922.00
Today’s entry combined with Saturdays entry have seen us sell 180 over thirty month cattle
this week and some cows sold today would have been better sold Saturday as Feeders!!
The deadweight due to the high seasonal flood was again reduced this week with many of
the larger cow outlets quoting 230-240p deadweight on a ‘R’, bearing this in mind you don’t
have to be a mathematician to work it out where is the best outlet for your cows.
Top cow today was consigned by Gill and Barry heald who sold Limousins to 169.5p £1367.87, Tommy and Anthony Holmes sold Limousins to 165.5p – £3166.78, Lester Knight
sold Angus to 161.5p - £1190.26.
Today best fed Continentals 150p plus with R grades 140-148p and O+’s 130-138p with
plainer Continentals 118-128p.
Black and Whites looked the best sellers today with meated sorts 125-132p, plainer sorts
110-118p and very plain cows 100-110p and horrors 80-94p.
Messrs E Till & Sons sold Black and Whites to £1055.85 and (Mike) Messrs JR Cheney & Son
sold to £1008.18p
The clean side of the OTMs saw many very weathered lean sorts forward, however trade
very decent.
Jim Hurton sold Blonde heifers to 222.5p - £1724.38. Long distance traveller Messrs RJ & BE
Kimber, Chippenham sold Simmental heifers to £1561.18.
Any cattle with CTS Forms MUST have a green passport attached if you have

Steers - 88 averaged 215.13p
A decent entry on offer today and definitely a story of two halves, firstly some lovely bred
cattle very well finished and then the rest.
Saying that trade for all qualities very much sharper on the week and way ahead of the
deadweight.
Top steer today was sold by Edward Swindells who sold Blues to 258.5p - £1310.60, Graham
Chantrell sold a fantastic load of steers and heifers to 251.5p for steers £1322.89. Brian
Cummings sold Limousins to 248.5p - £1411.48.
Today all E grades 240p plus with U+’s 231-238p and R grades 219-227p and O+’s 204-215p.
Black and White steers forward were mostly Holstein types and those with flesh sold from
166-178p, plainer sorts 150-160p.
