The South African Professional Society on the
Abuse of Children
(SAPSAC)
Presents its 9th Annual National Child Abuse Conference
12 - 14 May 2008
CSIR
International Convention Centre
Pretoria
Conference theme:
Towards multi-disciplinary expertise in handling child abuse
INVITATION BY THE PRESIDENT OF SAPSAC
Adv.Retha Meintjes, SC
It is my pleasure to invite all professionals interested in the improved handling of child abuse to SAPSAC`s
9th Annual National Conference on Child Abuse and its General Meeting.
The SAPSAC child abuse conferences are aimed to educate at the multi-disciplinary level and the topics are
therefore carefully chosen to speak to all involved in handling child abuse.
The main focus of the conferences shifts annually from one profession to the next. Thus we have had
international and local guest speakers focusing on different aspects from a psychological, legal and
investigating viewpoint. The main focus this year will be on the medical profession: conducting expert
examinations including how the medical expert’s valued observations and views may serve to assist the rest
of us.
We are delighted to have Dr Reece from the USA as our guest speaker. Dr Reece comes wellrecommended as an entertaining and knowledgeable speaker. It is impossible to repeat his very impressive
CV here but an abbreviated version is included elsewhere in this program. We know that all professionals
dealing with, or who might have to deal with child abuse, stand to gain from his presentations.
Valuable contributions will also be made by the rest of our speakers who are experts from all of the various
disciplines involved and the program allows for ample floor discussions.
The lunches, teas and evening event provide the important opportunity for professional networking which will
answer to another of SAPSAC`s aims as reflected in the SAPSAC logo: taking hands in the best interest of
the children of South Africa.
Attendance of the 9th SAPSAC Conference once again promises to be a learning opportunity not to be
missed, where we will share in knowledge and expertise, meet with friends and colleagues and make new
acquaintances. .
1
We are also proud to announce that, due to the growing number of participants, we will henceforth have our
conferences at the CSIR International Convention Centre, where the conference facilities meet with the
highest standards. There will also be ample parking space
I look forward to seeing you at the conference which promises to be not only an educational experience but
also an enjoyable and memorable one.
