Cathy Wilcox
SUMMER IDYLL
Cathy is a children's book illustrator,
who has won the Australian Children's
Book Council's 'Picture Book of the
Year' award twice. She is also a
cartoonist who is best known for her
work in The Sydney Morning Herald
and The Age newspapers.
LOT 2
As well as drawing cartoons, Cathy
sings a lot, likes colours and projects
personalities onto small creatures! The
vase is painted using acrylic paints
coated with polyurethane satin varnish.
Concetta Antico
Peacock
LOT 4
“Plump, pretty and patterned this
peacock image was inspired by the
magnificent figurative works of Norman
Lindsay. Peacocks are my signature
theme. I am moved by them as they
represent heaven and as a tetrachromat
I am able to portray their vivid colours.
The peacock form seemed to easily
embody and, with its long decorative
tail, wrap elegantly about the shape of
this vessel."
Kerry Thompson
LOT 6
Kerry Thompson is an award-winning
cartoonist whose work has appeared in
publications as diverse as the Sydney
Morning Herald and the Medical
Observer. She exhibits widely as an
artist and is the creator of the “Little
Firefly” pop-up gallery and studio. If
that weren’t enough, as Kerry Millard
she is also the author and illustrator of
a number of well-loved children’s
books.
Deidre Morrison
HAWKESBURY View
LOT 8
Deidre Morrison has been a well
known artist and Art Teacher in the
Sydney and Hawkesbury region for
many years.
She is an active member of the
Macquarie Towns Art Society and the
Hawkesbury Artist and Artisan's Trail.
GLEN LE LIEVRE
SEA ABBOTTS
Glen is a cartoonist for the Sydney
Morning Herald, the Age and the SunHerald. After a decade working in the
United States he now lives in Sydney.
His drawings have also appeared in
Time magazine, MAD, Playboy and
Reader's Digest. He has been
nominated for a Walkley award and
won a Stanley award for best single
gag artist.

Alan Moir
Multi-award winning cartoonist and
caricaturist Alan Moir has been the
Editorial Cartoonist for the Sydney
Morning Herald since 1984 and his
cartoons on international themes are
regularly syndicated through The New
York Times Syndicate. As well as being
represented in the collections of the
National Library of Australia and the
National Museum of Australia, his work
also is held by the State Libraries of
New South Wales, Queensland and
Victoria.

Ashlee Reardon
Ashlee has exhibited her work over the
last 5 years most recently in the Waste
to Art exhibition at Blackheath.
She likes to focus on artworks that
don’t imprint on the earth such as
‘waste creations’ and limiting her
footprint on the environment.

Pol Barona
EMUS
LOT 16
Pol Barona grew up in Mountains of
Luzon, Philippines and had a successful
career in advertising and then the
animation industry working for both
Hanna Barbera and Walt Disney.
Pol is interested in the deeper meaning
of being a bird and living a civilized life
in the wild!
JAMIE MURRAY
Jaime has been painting for about 10
year. He comes from a family of
painters and poets and is from the
Wiradjuri nation.
Jamie has been involved in several
major expos over the last few years
including NAIDOC. He also exhibited
at last year’s Joan Sutherland Centre
expo which included Aboriginal works
from all over Australia and was titled
‘Waste on Country’.

Lyn Burns
BUSH vase
LOT 20
The idea for this vase came from a
watercolour and ink painting I did up
on Burralow Road in the bush above
Kurrajong, in early Spring.
The vase is painted using china paints
on unglazed porcelain. I like to paint en
plein air, and my preferred medium is
pastel.
Anne Smith
CATS
LOT 22
Anne is well-known for her whimsical
hand-coloured etchings and painted
ceramics. With husband Ian she is codirector of Falls Gallery Wentworth
Falls, where she also exhibits. Her
work is represented in institutional and
private collections in Australia, Britain,
New Zealand, America and Japan.
Robyn Collier
RAINFOREST
Robyn Collier is a painter in the realist
tradition and is regarded as one of
Australia's finest wilderness artists.
Renowned for her portrayal of remote
places, Robyn treks, flies, drives and
even abseils into many of them. More
frequently, Robyn has been
concentrating on World Heritage areas
within Australia. Her trademark is her
ability to capture spectacular light
effects in her works

DAVID newman white
OLD FACES
David Newman-White is an
experienced lecturer in fine art and has
taught in TAFE colleges for 30yrs.
LOT 26
He has extensively exhibited both
nationally and internationally and is
represented by the Agora Gallery in
New York, and the Newman-White
Gallery in Blackheath.
GREG HANSELL
HAWKESBURY View
Greg Hansell lives on the historic
Peninsula area of Windsor, and many
of the sites he has painted are within
walking distance from his studio
overlooking the Hawkesbury River.
LOT 28
Greg’s medium is usually pastel and he
uses a combination of handmade earth
pastels and Schmincke pastels. He is a
fellow of the Royal Art Society of NSW
and has been a finalist over 20 times in
the Archibald and Wynne prizes and
Salon de Refuse.
OWEN THOMPSON
Known for his sublime Blue Mountains
landscapes, Owen’s group exhibitions
include a teaching artists exchange
with Barcelona, the Katoomba and
Sanda (Japan) Sister Cities exchange
exhibition and the 2004 “Land out of
Time” exhibition showcasing local
artists re-interpreting early 1900’s
landscape works depicting the Blue
Mountains. In addition to teaching, he
exhibits as a member of the Australian
Watercolour Institute and the Royal Art
Society.

Lindsay Foyle has been drawing
cartoons for over 40 years.
He's also written about the history of
cartooning and now and again gotten
involved in painting landscapes.
JEFF RIGBY
GRASSES
Jeff Rigby has taught widely among
NSW Colleges of TAFE and currently
teaches drawing at the National Art
School. Jefff has had at least thirty solo
shows and many group shows and has
been a finalist in the Wynne Prize.

Jeff’s work is represented in many
collections including AGNW,
Parliament House and State Library
NSW.
Wendy Sharpe
BURLESQUE 2013
Wendy’s many awards include the
Archibald Prize (1996), the Portia
Geach Memorial Prize (1995, 2003)
and the Suliman Prize (1986). In 1999
she was appointed as Australian
Official Artist attached to the
Australian Army History Unit in Dili,
East Timor. Her work is widely
represented in both institutional and
private collections in Australia and
abroad.

Jane Canfield
Paddocks
Though her background is in graphic
design Jane has been painting
professionally for nearly a decade,
developing the bold geometric style and
architectural themes exemplified in her
signature linocuts but also increasingly
working ‘en plain air’. She currently
works between studios in Leura and
Portland.

Bruce Petty
Evolution
LOT 42
Bruce Petty is renowned as one of
Australia’s most penetrating political
satirists and cartoonists. Centring on
the free association of links between
various ideas, people and institutions,
in more recent years his body of work
has extended to include writing, filmmaking, animation, illustration and
printmaking
David Rowe
David is a Walkely award-wining
political cartoonist and caricaturist
best-known for
his contributions to the Australian
Financial Review

PAUL DELPRAT
A Tribute to Lindsay
Paul is a Sydney based artist and
Principal of The Julian Ashton Art
School, Australia's oldest continuous
fine art school. His art is represented in
the National Gallery of Australia, State
and Municipal Galleries and University
and Private collections.He created the
paintings, drawings and sculptures for
the Michael Powell film Age Of
Consent based on Lindsay’s novel, as
well as paintings and drawings for the
1993 film Sirens.
LOT 46
The artists whose vases are included in the Exhibition ‘A VASE BY ANY OTHER NAME’
have kindly donated their time and talents to the Norman Lindsay Gallery
to raise funds for continuing conservation of the collection.
The vases will be auctioned here at the gallery on Sunday the 1st December
as part of a Charity Auction and Valuation Day
by Steven Archer
Absentee bids will be accepted in advance if you are unable to attend the auction
but would like to purchase a vase.
