Cryer, J.D., was elected to the Board of Directors of the American Liver Foundation (ALF), the nation’s foremost nonprofit organization focused on the promotion of liver health and the prevention of liver disease. “I couldn’t be more excited to join the American Liver Foundation at this critical juncture in its history,” says Ms. Cryer who received a liver transplant thirteen years ago at Johns Hopkins Hospital due to primary schlerosing cholangitis, an autoimmune disease. “Experiencing liver disease and transplantation have changed the course of my life and ensuring that other patients have access to the highest quality information, support, and care is a driving force for me.” Ms. Cryer has worked closely with ALF since her transplant as patient affairs specialist for the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), which operates the national organ transplant matching and policy system; while advancing GlaxoSmithKline’s hepatitis B outreach to Asian American communities; and when serving on the National Capitol Area ALF chapter Board of Directors as fundraising chair. Ms. Cryer continues to be a frequent speaker to patient groups on topics of transplantation. The national ALF Board of Directors, comprised of members with medical, scientific and other related expertise necessary to futher the organization’s mission, leads a chapter-driven organization celebrating its 30th anniversary. The ALF funds research, education and advocacy for people affected by liver-related diseases.
