Qualifications Urban Promise Academy seeks an experienced humanities teacher who: Required: Has a single subject Social Studies and/or English credential, or a multiple subject credential (with an emphasis in humanities) Has taught History and/or English Has taught English Language Learners Believes in literacy across the curriculum Believes that ALL students can achieve at high levels regardless of their background or past experiences Is open and willing to deeply examine his/her own teaching practice Is committed to improving student achievement of urban students Highly desired: Has experience with project-based learning. Has experience teaching reading intervention Has at least two years of teaching experience in an urban school Has experience with or believes in the value of arts integration. Has worked collaboratively with colleagues, students, and families to develop an innovative educational program Data analysis skills and comfort utilizing quarterly assessments to inform teaching practice Willingness to take on leadership positions Speaks Spanish, Arabic, or Vietnamese What support will be provided? Coaching from Instructional Facilitator, Assistant Principal, and Principal Professional development opportunities and trainings on and off-site Common planning time with grade-level teachers On-site, weekly professional development including teacher inquiry practices Professional learning community, including peer observations and release days for planning Summer Commitments Option to teach summer school. On Wednesday classes end at 12:52 and teachers have professional development until 3:30. Crew leader’s role Be the Crew leader of 16-18 students Advise students to make good academic and behavioral choices Maintain contact with families about the progress of their child Hold family conferences three times a year Participate on advisees’ SST’s (Student Success Team) meetings Implement and assist in the development of a Crew curriculum Salary Based on OUSD contract related to educational units and years of qualified experience.
