2014 Conservation Crew Corpsmember Position Description: Join a seven person crew for five and a half months working on conservation projects throughout Northern New Mexico and the Four Corners region. Serve your community through team service while planning for your future. You need to be prepared to work hard. This crew will often travel to work sites and camp there for up to eight days. Past projects include: trail construction and maintenance, forestry, natural disaster relief, watershed restoration and other community improvement work. All corpsmembers will receive both personal and professional trainings in topics including: First Aid/ CPR, S212 Equivalency, Trail Skills 101, conflict resolution, communication, and presentation /public speaking skills. These educational sessions are designed to give you the professional skills necessary to further your education and obtain meaningful employment. Benefits: This is an Americorps position and all candidates will receive a living stipend of about $680 before taxes. Stipends are issued to Corpsmembers bi-weekly throughout the season. Upon completion of the program Corpsmembers will receive an education award of $2,825. This award can be used to pay tuition at most colleges, universities, or trade schools. Corpsmembers may also receive health insurance and childcare reimbursement during their term of service with Americorps. Most camping equipment will be provided if needed as will transportation costs and food while on spike. Timeline: March 4 – August 15 5.5 month commitment 900 hours of community service Most projects require wilderness camping for up to eight days at a time o 7-5 pm Tuesday – Tuesday Occasional in-town projects o 8-5 pm, Monday - Friday Occasional service events on weekends.
