Student Learning Outcome (Stated in Measurable Terms) Assessment Method Graduates will demonstrate familiarity with the culture or the international political economy of one or more Asian sociolinguistic regions or countries, depth in the understanding of the relation of social and cultural traditions or the international political economy of one or more Asian sociolinguistic regions or countries to contemporary phenomena, proficiency with the appropriate technology required to conduct and present research, and identify strategies to conduct inquiries on Asian studies All students in a capstone course, ASN 4510 or ASN 4936, will be assessed each semester A three member faculty panel will use the attached rubric describing 4 indicators of subject knowledge (5 point rating scale; 20 point maximum) to assess the research paper required in the capstone course. A mean score for each student will be obtained from the faculty ratings. Graduates will attain an average minimum score of 12 on subject knowledge. Student Learning Outcome (Stated in Measurable Terms) Assessment Method Graduates will demonstrate conversational proficiency through an oral component and grammar and composition through a written component in an Asian language. An exit exam will be given to Asian Studies graduates in the final semester of their second year of language study. These students will be assessed in either CHI 2201 or JPN 2201. A three member faculty panel will use the attached rubric describing 4 indicators of proficiency in an Asian language (5 point rating scale; 20 point maximum) to assess the comprehension and communication skills demonstrated by the exit exam. A percentage score for each student will be obtained from the faculty ratings. Expected standard of performance for Graduates will be: 75% score.
