This position is responsible for managing academic program delivery in VET services including:
Management and coordination of delivery of courses; validation and moderation of delivery and assessment.
Maintenance of VET Services teaching standards and educational analysis of Department of
Conservation and Land Management courses;
Maintenance of student records;
Management of Quality Assurance processes (including ASQA) for course development and delivery;
Supervision of staff and management of staff performance;
Management of budget programs;
Undertaking of professional activities and research relevant to the professional area; and
Promotion of good public relations including liaison between communities, professional organisations and other Divisions.
1. Responsible to the Division Head – Commerce & Industry for the delivery and maintenance of VET programs at an approved standard (ASQA).
2. Management of departmental operations including leadership, administration, delivery and assessment of courses; and budget and human resource management.
Compliance with Batchelor Institute philosophy, policies and Academic Rules.
Active participation in critical analysis of educational delivery with staff (validation, moderation and monitoring), student follow-up and the development and revision of curriculum.
5. Participation in staff selection (including the chairing of selection and interview panels), staff orientation and development, and staff quality management processes.
6. Monitor the assessment of student performance, including moderation of grades, and maintenance of
Batchelor Institute records of students' academic progression.
Maintain close liaison with relevant industry partners including external organisations and agencies.
Development and maintenance of appropriate teaching resources for VET courses.
Communicate effectively with the Division Head – Commerce & Industry and staff on a regular basis and ensure that their needs are addressed.
10. Ensure personal and professional development is continued and participation of research and allied activities within the Division, as well as pursuing an individual research development and publications program in areas relating to Conservation and Land Management.

SELECTION CRITERIA
ESSENTIAL:
1. A tertiary qualification equivalent to five (5) years of Higher Education in Conservation and Land
Management or a related area relevant to the academic discipline field of this position preferably at
Masters level or higher and/or equivalent qualification and / or substantial experience relevant to the position, and/or professional registration within the Northern Territory.
2. Significant relevant experience in Conservation and Land Management, preferably within Indigenous
Australian communities and/or organisations, and membership of a professional organisation/association.
3. Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE) or Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace
Training (AWPT) for VET sector or Graduate Certificate in Higher Education sector.
4. Demonstrated capacity to work within the social, political and cultural environment of Indigenous
Australian communities and organisations of the Northern Territory, and the capacity to communicate sensitively and effectively with Indigenous Australians, including adult students and community members.
5. Demonstrated knowledge of historical and contemporary issues of importance to Indigenous Australians relevant to the discipline field of this position.
6. Demonstrated experience in managing the delivery of VET Programs including ensuring internal and external Quality Assurance processes for both sectors are met, management of program budgets, relevant administrative responsibilities and HR matters.
7. Demonstrated commitment to undertake professional development in area of expertise and demonstrated capacity to undertake research and development projects.
8. Demonstrated capacity to respond effectively to the learning needs of adult Indigenous Australian students enrolled in the courses associated with this position including the ability to initiate and develop relevant curriculum and learning resources.
9. Demonstrated ability to manage teams effectively and provide leadership, and undertake a range management tasks including management of program budgets and performance management of staff within the Division.
10. Must be able to undertake travel throughout the Northern Territory in a light aircraft, must possess a
Northern Territory C class drivers licence with experience of driving on unformed roads, and must be prepared to stay in a range of accommodation available to the Batchelor Institute staff, including camping out.
11. Demonstrated capacity to use personal computers and electronic communications technology.
