BURN 24/7 Community Prayer Room Guidelines

“Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”

2 Corinthians 3:17 nkjv

“Jesus answered him, ‘The first of all commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God, the

LORD is one. And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this:

‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.’ “

Mark 12: 29-31 nkjv

“...all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify...” nkj

“Everything is permissible – but not everything is beneficial...” niv

I Corinthians 10:23

“I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts.” Psalms 119:45 niv

As we seek to serve the community and each other in prayer, let us be governed above all by the heart of these verses! The Burn 24/7 is a place of freedom, not restrictions; as we grow closer to the Lord, we grow in our ability to give mercy and grace to others – as well as our desire to serve one another in love. We also desire to be clearly focused on the specific calling and ministry for this place – intercessory prayer - which will help keep us aligned with the Lord’s purpose as we change & grow.

Please consider the following guidelines, but most of all, let God’s love prevail in all of our thoughts & actions both toward one another and toward the community!

Please arrive on time for your scheduled slot; if you sign up for a spot and cannot make it, please try to find a replacement before calling the coordinator to let them know as soon as possible. Watchman Contact Lists are updated regularly; there is a master list in the prayer room, and copies are available if needed.

Please greet everyone who comes into the prayer room ; and be willing to pray with, encourage, and share the gospel with people as the Lord leads. Many seeds are planted even in quiet meditation! – be mindful if a guest prefers to be left to themselves. You are always able to offer bottled water or coffee to visitors.

Please be respectful of others when offering to pray with them; ask permission before laying hands, and as much as possible, minister in pairs (the ideal is women to women and men to men – be sensitive to boundaries & allow the

Holy Spirit to lead).

During nightwatch : watchmen have permission to lock the front door after 9pm, especially for females who are on the wall alone during this time. Back door should be locked during the hours of 10pm – 6am. Front door should be unlocked the next day by 6am. Nightwatchmen are also responsible for putting out the trashcans for city pickup as needed. Please be mindful that there are tenants upstairs!

Keep speakers on low, no vocal microphones; instruments unplugged.

NEW – Guest/Visitor Policy: the leadership committee, after much prayer and discussion, would like to implement the following policy with regards to guests who are not visiting the prayer room primarily for the purpose of prayer/artistic worship/Bible study. The Burn 24/7 prayer room has not been called or designed to function as a food pantry or homeless shelter; our ministry is prayer and evangelism, and as such we cannot provide overnight housing or meals. Realizing a watchman’s heart to make exceptions to this policy, we would encourage them instead to refer those guests to the Clinton County Homeless Shelter or to

Sugartree Ministries. Please realize that in making exceptions for one or two guests, we are not being fair to the many who would then come & expect the same benefits.

Thank you so much for serving in agreement with this policy.

Housekeeping: we serve the Lord, and one another, when we care for this building He has entrusted to us! Everyone is asked to pitch in if you see a need (i.e. replacing paper towels in restroom, straightening floor pillows & books, emptying trash, making fresh coffee, etc.) – a great policy is to leave a space cleaner than the way you found it.

There are general cleaning supplies in the bathroom closet, and there are always things that need to be cleaned... if everyone helps out, we will keep this place beautiful and welcoming to all who enter!

Watchman communication : it has become apparent that we need a way to pass along urgent information for watchmen only. We have designated the clipboard hanging beneath the coordinator calendar as our “hot spot” for urgent requests

& information. Please check this clipboard at the beginning of your shift for any important news, especially if you are not able to receive email updates.

This may seem obvious... but PRAY and worship during your time ! Take a walk around the front room, and read the many prayer requests on the walls. Respond by writing a verse or encouraging word if the Lord leads. Bless the people walking downtown and the cars driving by. Please make a note in the prayer room journal if anything happens during your shift that other watchmen should be aware of.

Remember to pray with, or “bless” the person taking over for you as you leave... and take the presence of the Lord with you for the rest of the day, wherever you go!

Your thoughts are important to us! If you have any questions or concerns, please contact a member of the leadership team (see contact information below).

Most of all, thank you for your willingness to serve the

Lord and this community!
