HAFFA MARKS 40TH ANNIVERSARY
WITH SPECTACULAR GALA DINNER
The Hongkong Association of Freight Forwarding and Logistics Limited (HAFFA) officially
celebrated its 40th anniversary with a spectacular gala dinner for more than 1,000 guests on
Friday, March 17.
Held at HITEC, the evening was officiated over by guest of honour, Ms. Sandra Lee, JP,
Permanent Secretary for Economic Development, Ms. Miriam Lau, JP, Legislative Councillor
representing the Transport Constituency, and HAFFA Chairman, Mr. Kelvin Leung of DHL
Logistics (Hong Kong) Limited.
Addressing the leading figures in Hong Kong’s freight forwarding and logistics industry, Ms. Lee
looked back over the last 40 years of the SAR’s history, while Ms. Lau highlighted the local
development of the industry during the last four decades.
Many former HAFFA Chairmen attended, and were presented with a gift in recognition of their
contribution to the success of the Association. Ex-Chairmen Mr. Richard Sun, Mr. Larry Dunn,
Mr. Sam Chung, Mr. Walter Nahr, and Mr. Anthony Lau all took the stage to speak about their
experiences within the industry and the particular challenges they faced during their terms and
Chairmanships.
The guests – seated at 88 tables – were presented with a special HAFFA 40th anniversary
booklet, which chronicled both the history of the Association and the industry in Hong Kong
since 1966. The Association was honoured to receive congratulatory messages for the booklet
from leading Government and industry figures including; Financial Secretary, The Honourable
Henry Tang Ying-yen, GBS, JP; Secretary for Economic Development and Labour, Mr. Stephen
Ip, GBS, JP; and Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology, Mr. Joseph W.P. Wong,
GBS, JP. In addition to the commemorative booklet, HAFFA also produced special newspaper
supplements, a commemorative pin, and a gift, all to celebrate the anniversary.
Commented current HAFFA Chairman, Mr. Leung: “The evening was a fitting celebration of the
success of the Association, and an opportunity to thank all those who have contributed so much
to its current standing as a powerful and influential industry voice. Amongst them, our
members, the commercial and Governmental organisations with which we work so closely,
Executive Committee members and former Chairmen.
“As the Association looks to the new challenges ahead, it is important to recognise the
importance of close cooperation among all those associated with the industry. The celebration
of four decades provides HAFFA with both an opportunity to review its achievements to date
and look to future opportunities.”
