LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF SUSAN COCHRAN:

In the Name of God, Amen.
I Susan Cochran of the County of Williamson and State of Tennessee being of sound mind and
disposing memory do make this the sixth day of October One-Thousand Eight-Hundred and Fifty-four my
last will and testament hereby revoking and making void all other wills by me at any time made-First I direct that my funeral expenses and all my debts be paid as soon after my death as possible
out of any moneys that I may die possessed of or may first come into the hands of my executor.
Secondly It is my will and desire that my Negro woman Vina and her children be sold on a twelve
months credit and the money arising from the sale of said slaves to be equally divided between all my
children.
Thirdly I will and bequeath to my two oldest daughters two white figured counterpanes, two
white figured table cloths.
Fourthly It is my will and desire that all the remaining balance of my property be sold and the
money to be equally divided between all my children.
Lastly I do hereby nominate and appoint my friend John M. Winstead my executor to this my last
will and Testament In witness whereof I do to this my will set my hand and seal the day and date above
written--Signed, sealed, and published in our presence and we have subscribed our names hereto in the
presence of the testator.

The State of Tennessee, Williamson County Court, April Term, 1856.
The Last Will and Testament of Susan Cochran late of this County deceased is produced for
probate and the execution thereof duly proven thus John B. Layne and Johnson Oston subscribing
witnesses Thereto being sworn say they became such in the presence and at the request of the testatrix that
they believe said testatrix was of sound and disposing mind and memory at the making and publication of
said will and under no undue influence ordered that said will be recorded. And therefore John M. Winstead
the Executor nominated in said will appears in Court gives bond of Four-thousand dollars conditioned for
the faithful discharge of the trust reposed in him with Zachariah, Allen, Hezekiah Hill, and William C.
Hunt his sureties and having been duly sworn, ordered that letters testamentary issue to him accordingly.

PROBATE COURT RECORDS OF WILLIAMSON CO., TENNESSEE
Having summoned the Executor & notified all the parties interested resident in the County & made
publication for non-residents, I have this day settled with John M. Winstead relative to his execution of the
will & administration of the estate of Susan Cochran, deceased & find a balance due the estate of $2.140.08
to be divided in five shares of $428.01 3/5, One to be paid to Thomas R. Cochran, One to Delila Pomroy,
wife of Wm. Pomroy, one to Louisa, wife of James C. Johnson, One to Eunice, wife of Frederick May, &
one to Nathan W. Cochran. Witness my hand at office this 17th day of May 1855.
