COCHRAN FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME 2014 The Directorate: Sector Education and Training invites interested and eligible officials to participate in the Cochran Fellowship Programme for 2014. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced the initiation of the application process for the Cochran Fellowship Programme. The programme provides short term US-based food and agricultural training opportunities for senior and mid-level specialists and administrators for public and private sectors who are involved with agricultural trade, agribusiness development, management, policy and marketing. The Cochran Fellowship Programme offers short-term opportunities, mostly ranging from 2 (two) to 3 (three) weeks depending on the objectives of the programme. Training takes place in the United States. Targeted training areas for 2014: The following training programmes are available: Zero Hunger Programme/Agricultural Policy: Supporting Emerging Farmers with Developing School Gardens to Support Nutrition: To support government and private sector officials, along with small-scale farmers to empower the emerging farm sector in the implementation of effective policies and practices to ensure greater participate Aquaculture: To expose participants of the production and benefits of aquaculture for job creation and food security. Artificial Insemination: The programme will strengthen developing and commercial farmer understanding of artificial insemination practices and benefits based on the utilization of U.S. genetics. Biotech GM Crop Production: To expose government and private participants to the agricultural biotechnology in the U.S. industry how biotech crops are produces and learn about benefits to agricultural productivity, food security and including the importance of science-based rule making for allowing trade in biotech commodity.
