Building Blocks Campaign Building Blocks Campaign Wish Lists 1. Grammar School, Doreen Howell: Request: Tea Sets for 1st/5th Annual Colonial Tea. Cost: 26 groups of six, three-piece places settings needed. Six three-piece settings cost $45. Place setting includes cups, saucers, and dessert plates. Also need: 5 sets of a creamer/sugar bowl ($17/set) and 5 teapots ($24 each). Why Do We Need Them? In the past, the parents have trusted us with the use of their fine china for this event but as the event has changed and now includes the fifth grade with the first grade, we feel it is worth the investment to have these items as part of our supplies. In order to serve all of the classes we would need the following items: Six three-piece place settings Teapot Creamer/Sugar Bowl Dessert Plate Request: Document Cameras and LCD Projectors, 8 of them desired. Cost: The Document Camera is $800, the LCD Projector is $400. Why Do We Need Them? New technology is making the use of overhead projectors obsolete and opening the possibility for students to see and experience 3-D objects as well as maps and pictures in books without transferring the information to a transparency. This opens up a whole new world to classroom investigations through the use of a document camera and an LCD Projector. The document camera can also be hooked up to a computer, a microscope, or a TV to project the objects or pages in a book. We desire to eventually have document cameras in all our classrooms (40 units) but right now we are building to have one available to each grade level. School of Logic, Liz Benigno Request: Cost: 4 Pull Down Map Sets for American History --2 for 1865-Present Day --2 for 1900-Present Day $600 per map set ($600X4 = $2,400) Why Do We Need Them? One of the most interesting elements of a classroom is the maps that adorn the walls. We have been blessed over the past years with wonderful sets of maps for classrooms. However, as humanities teachers have begun teaching multiple disciplines, we do not have enough map sets for each teacher to have the adequate maps in their classrooms. Maps are wonderful tools for both teachers and students in investigating the significance of history. * These maps would be excellent resources for the teachers of our American History, European History, and Medieval History classes. Building Blocks Campaign Request: Nike 62” Waterproof Umbrellas, one for each portable. Cost: $24.00 each 3. School of Rhetoric, Craig Doerksen Requests: A series of quality, framed or wood-mounted prints of works of art and other images that represent important developments in Western Civilization--beautiful works that embody the history, ideas, and discoveries we study at Regents. Why do we need them? The school will be a better place to learn with beautiful and important works in our hallways. Our hallways now have lockers, a few bulletin boards, and long expanses of empty, bare walls. We’d like to make them beautiful. We don’t need beauty in our lives. We don’t need to be inspired. We don’t need to be moved by beautiful paintings, challenged by difficult pieces, or reminded of critical moments in history. But we are better when we are. Athletics Department, Beck Brydon Request: 1 Samsung Front Load Washer and Dryer Cost: Set: $2,552.46 Why Do We Need These? The Athletic Department currently has “Laundry Angels” --Sweet Moms who take laundry home each week to wash and bring back to the Athletic Department, simply because the current washer and dryer is very small, old (probably used when they received it!) and can not handle the immense volume of laundry that needs to be done. They share with the cafeteria which has a load of towels that must also get washed each day. Getting 2 new washers and 2 new dryers would allow us to wash uniforms more often and really get them clean and sanitary. With MSRA (Staph infections) always lurking around, the cleaner we keep the uniforms the better. This really would be a major asset to our school. Thank you.
