The deadline to apply for the UCLA Alumni Scholars Club is Tuesday, February 15! SOPHIA BRADY HAS WON THE REGIONAL COMPETITION FOR THE NATIONAL POETRY OUT LOUD CONTEST!!! The competition was very tough this year but the audience clearly loved Sophia’s dazzling presentations of her poems. Now we will have an opportunity to congratulate her for winning the Southern region and cheer her on as she goes off to the State Championship next month! Then, hopefully, off to Washington DC! Bravo, Sophia, we are so proud and impressed! Woodbury University in Burbank will be hosting a free Financial Aid Workshop on Saturday, February 19, from 9:00a.m. to 1:00p.m. This workshop will consist of an overview of the financial aid process, a step-by-step review of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application, as well as answer any questions. Awesome summer opportunity to be a part of the Los Angeles Pediatric Society Career Program is open to Juniors and Seniors for purposes of shadowing various medical professionals. The Armenian and Spanish exam will be administered at Glendale High on February 26 and the Arabic, Korean, Russian and Tagalog exams will be administered at Glendale High on March 19. Registration forms for the exams are available in the Counseling Office. 10th Grade CAHSEE Parent Night: All parents of 10th graders are invited to hear valuable information about the California High School Exit Exam, which is a mandatory state exam that will be administered to all 10th graders on March 8 and 9. Please join administrators, teachers and counselors in the Hoover Library Wednesday night, February 16, from 6:30-8:00, for this very important meeting. COLLEGE - CAREER INFORMATION Cornell University, in New York, and the University of Notre Dame, in Indiana, is offering students in grades 10-12 an opportunity to attend summer college programs. This scholarship will be awarded to one outstanding male or female who has contributed community service in areas such as: homelessness, health, leadership, and financial literacy. Seniors: This is the time to be focusing on scholarships...You can receive a scholarship presented by the Americana at Brand entitled "The Spirit of American Youth". Two graduating seniors may be awarded $10,000 by writing an essay on how they've contributed to the betterment of their communities and creating a brighter future for the next generation.
