STUDENTS IN GRADES 9 THROUGH 11: ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT
TAKING AN ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) CLASS NEXT YEAR? If so, you and
a parent/guardian MUST attend one of the AP Orientation Nights on Tuesday,
March 8, or Thursday, March 10, in the Auditorium, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
You MUST have an AP contract in order to sign up for an AP class and you
can only get an AP contract by attending one of these mandatory meetings.

SENIORS: IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON ATTENDING GLENDALE COLLEGE
THIS SUMMER OR FALL you can begin submitting your applications TODAY.
Those Seniors who are currently taking courses at GCC are considered “Jump
Start” students and must re-submit an application so that they will be considered
Freshman college students and be in line for enrollment of classes. Please see
Mrs. Mouradian if you have any questions or need a signature on your GCC form.
JUNIORS & SENIORS: WOULD YOU LIKE TO EARN 2 COLLEGE CREDITS
AND HONE YOUR WRITING SKILLS? Students who wish to get a jump start on
successfully meeting the challenges of a college education and understanding
the difference between writing in high school and writing in college are
encouraged to sign up for a new 3-week workshop on the UCLA campus this
summer.
There is a scholarship application available in the College-Career
Center and online at www.wp.ucla.edu. The deadline is March 15, 2011.
ALL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS: The Raza Recruitment and Retention Center at
U.C. Berkeley is partnered with L.A. Mayor Villaraigoza to present its first College
Information Day Conference on Saturday, March 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
You will explore admissions policies for college, student life, financial aid, support
groups and hear current student perspectives. Continental breakfast and lunch
will be provided. You must register by Friday, March 18. For more information go

SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS: Do you want to improve your SAT score?
Revolution Prep is the nation’s largest provider of on-campus SAT and ACT prep
courses and will be offering a high quality, affordable test prep course at Hoover
starting on Saturday, March 26, for the May 7 SAT. Call 1-877-REV-PREP, go to

HOOVER HIGH SCHOOL HAS DECIDED TO IMPLEMENT THE ACADEMIC
LETTER PROGRAM. What does that mean? Any student with outstanding
grades and attendance can qualify for an academic letter. Seniors, you can
qualify for your junior, sophomore, and freshman year; Juniors you can qualify
for your sophomore and freshman year; Sophomores, you can qualify for your
freshman year, and Freshmen, keep those grades up, next year you can start
applying.
What do you have to do? You can pick up an application for the Academic
Letter at the AP's office. This form must be filled out and turned in before the
March 18, 2011 deadline.
What do you get? An Academic H for a letterman jacket if you qualify for one
year and an Academic H with progressive pins if you qualify for more than one
year.
Any other questions, see Dr. Sweeney in the AP's office or out on the Quad at
snack and lunch.
The Arabic, Korean, Russian and Tagalog exams will be administered at
Glendale High on March 19. Registration forms for the exams are available
in the Counseling Office.
COLLEGE - CAREER INFORMATION
IS ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY A POSSIBILITY FOR YOU? April 22 is
Sun Devil Day where you have an opportunity to tour the 4 campuses, explore
academic programs and get a glimpse of student life at ASU. For more
information see Mrs. Samore in the Counseling Office.
SENIORS: Interested in the Field of Education? Come to the College-Career
Center and pick up a Glendale School Management Association Scholarship
application.
Cornell University, in New York, and the University of Notre Dame, in
Indiana, is offering students in grades 10-12 an opportunity to attend summer
college programs. Please visit the University’s website or come to the CollegeCareer Center for more information!
USC is offering summer classes to students who will be in grades 10 to 12
next year. There are 20 different courses available. Please check in the Career
Center or on the college bulletin board, or visit summer@usc.edu for more

SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINES ARE APPROACHING, BY THE DAY! IF YOU ARE
SERIOUS ABOUT PURSUING POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION AT A COLLEGE,
UNIVERSITY, OR COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND WOULD LIKE SOME TYPE OF
ASSISTANCE, you need to find out if you are eligible to apply for scholarships,
ASAP! You may find current lists on the HHS website or the College-Career
Center! A scholarship is essentially “free” money awarded to graduating Seniors
who have worked hard in school to obtain their educational goals and also for
students who qualify in other ways such as a particular eye color, ancestry, etc.

THE HIGH SCHOOL INNOVATOR OF THE YEAR SCHOLARSHIP IS FOR HIGH
SCHOOL STUDENTS WHO HAVE INVENTED SOMETHING NOTEWORTHY OR
IMPROVED A PROCESS THAT AFFECTS THEIR FELLOW STUDENTS, CITY OR
TOWN DURING THEIR HIGH SCHOOL CAREERS. Scholarships are $5,000 each.

SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FROM EDISON INTERNATIONAL FOR $2,500 for
those who plan to be a full-time student majoring in math, physics, chemistry,
engineering, materials science or computer science/information systems at a 4year college/university; must prove financial need; preference will be given to
students who are first-generation college students and those who have
overcome significant challenges. All applications must be postmarked by
March 15, 2011.
Most colleges/universities offer their own scholarships once you have
completed their applications.
Samsung Corporation is offering a $1,000 scholarship to any Senior who can
best answer the question: “Is Technology crucial to a live presentation or is it
just a crutch?” See Mrs. Samore in the Counseling Office or Ms. Miral in the
College-Career Center for more details.
Seniors: If you are part of Hoover's Parent Teacher Student Association
(PTSA) and interested in a $500 scholarship come see Ms. Ibarra in the
Counseling Office.
