CURT’S KENYA NEWSLETTER
Greetings in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ! The last two (2) months have been tough. I have had a range of
sicknesses including malaria, worms, dysentery, fish parasite, and pneumonia but through all of it God still gets the
honor and the glory. Living in Kenya is a continual tweaking to everything in my life. Here’s an example: July and August
are the cold months in Mbita which means it gets down to 60 degrees. The Kenyans use the word “funny” to mean
“weird.” So, the “funny” thing is that my body has adjusted to the temperature here and now I am freezing when it is 60
degrees outside! I can only imagine my next winter in the states.
An update on Stanley: Stanley is the alcoholic young
man I have been ministering to and who evidenced a lifechanging conversion after being prayed for. He made a dramatic
turnaround and other family members have received Christ
because of this. In I Peter 5:8 believers are reminded: “Be selfcontrolled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a
roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” The enemy has
done this very thing to Stanley. Without going into detail I can
tell you that this brother has been pulled away from God’s plan
for him and pushed into the opposite direction returning to the
old ways, associations, and sin-filled life. I have not given up on
African kids like to feel a “white man’s” hair!
Stanley and ask that you join me in praying for him to be
renewed in body, soul, and spirit.
FUN DAY FUN DAY FUN DAY!!!!!!!!! Oh man, fun day was amazing, tiring, and uplifting…and did I say
amazing?! For those who don't know, “fun day” is an annual event that we put on for the kids around the
Suba District. We have carnival-style games and different churches perform songs and skits. We provide lunch,
snacks, and Bible teachings for the kids. It is an awesome event that takes much planning and preparation.
From the first time this event was hosted for the children in 2009, there have been hundreds of kids who
came. This year God had plans for the day beginning with putting me in charge of the entire event. Our team
of planners and workers were challenged by the country’s teacher-strike as all school-age kids were out of
school until July 19. This year the event fell on Saturday, July 20. This day was the last Saturday before schools
re-opened and students were ready to see friends and take part in something exciting. Over 1000 children
showed up and we had to close the gates around noon because we were above our capacity in space, food,
and workers. All the kids played, learned of Jesus, and went home with their bellies full. It was the biggest FUN
DAY event in the history of the base and we hope to top it next year.
Prayer requests:
1. Hezron and I are traveling to Mombasa for a camp hosted by ACC (African Christian Camping). It is a 16-hour-long trip
and after that we are headed to Tanzania because I have to leave every 6 months to renew my visa.
2. In November, Hezron and I have been invited to run a children's camp in South Sudan.
3. In March of next year, I am planning on going to Zimbabwe for Jesse Berry's wedding. Please pray for God to provide
finances for all of this.
4. Please keep Stanley and his family lifted up.
5. The staff at S.E.E.K. and the entire ministry.
6. All missionaries around the world
Thank you for your support and prayers, both go a long way in bringing the kingdom of God to this small town on Lake
Victoria. “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” 2
