JOB DESCRIPTION:
1.0
JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for all activities in the Pharmacy including those for staff, stock, work
efficiencies and scheduling. Responsible for Pharmacy related activities on the wards
and other areas of the Hospital. Also responsible for the availability and supply of
Controlled and Narcotic drugs in the Pharmacy and the Hospital.
2.0
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
2.1
Overall responsibility of all pharmaceutical activities in the Pharmacy and in
the Hospital.
2.2
Will work closely with the Medical Director and the Assistant Director of
Pharmacy to identify and help solve all problems related to the efficient and
safe functioning of all pharmacy sites and all pharmaceutical services within
the Hospital.
2.3
Will work closely with the Director of PMMS to ensure appropriate levels and
appropriate quality of medicines that are purchased on behalf of the Hospital.
2.4
Will work closely with the Medical Director to monitor the financial and
staffing situations within the Pharmacy.
2.5
Establish, implement, monitor and review the Policy and Procedure Guidelines
of the Department.
2.6
Maintain compliance to the Hospital Formularies.
2.7
Acts as Secretary and maintain an active role at Pharmacy and Therapeutics
Committee.
2.8
Will strive to continually improve all aspects of the pharmaceutical activities
and services within the Pharmacy and within the Hospital.

To maintain good relationships between pharmacy staff and other hospital
staff. To also manage and motivate all pharmacy staff towards maintaining an
efficient and safe pharmacy.
2.10
To set and maintain all ethical standards and legal requirements for all
pharmacy staff, for all pharmacy areas and for all pharmaceutical services
within the Hospital. To abide by and respect the cultural needs of the native
country and of the Laws of Islam.
2.11
Review and assure the suitability of all pharmacy staff.
2.12
Responsible for the preparation of all pharmacy statistics including activity
figures and quality performance such as Level of Service Indicators.
2.13
Will work closely with the IS&T Director and the Medical Director for the
implementation, review and maximum utilization of the PharmNet Computer
System.
2.14
Responsible for the continuous development of pharmacy staff by on-going
education and training, relevant to the service. Also to encourage Pharmacy
staff to participate in education and training programs within the Hospital.
2.15
Responsible for staff orientation and competencies.
2.16
Responsible for the regular Individual Performance Appraisals (IPR) of all
Pharmacy staff. This includes an IPR for staff who are re-contracting and for
new recruits.
2.17
To regularly visit all pharmacy sites to ensure agreed standards and stock
controls.
2.18
To deal with Pharmaceutical Company Representative and to implement and
monitor their ethical standards within the pharmacy. The Director of
Pharmacy will also have a responsibility to report “unreasonable” practices
(within the Hospital) to Hospital Management.
2.19
Responsible for the availability and supply of Controlled and Narcotic drugs to
the Pharmacy and the Hospital under the direction of the M.S.D. Controller.

To oversee, and when necessary, to perform clinical and dispensing duties.

To perform other related activities when required by the Hospital
Management.
HOURS OF WORK:
The post-holder will work a 48hour week. This usually 7:30am to 5:00pm Saturdays
to Wednesdays (Inc.) and 7:30 am to 12:00 noon on Thursdays. They will carry a
bleep for emergency situations, when required.

REQUIREMENTS:

Qualifications or Relevant Experience:
4.1.1
Bachelor degree or preferably masters degree in pharmacy from a
recognized University.
4.1.2
Currently Registered with the Governing Professional Body of their
native country.
4.1.3
Have a good command of written and spoken English.
Personal Qualities:
4.2.1
The applicant must be able to demonstrate managerial and team-leader
qualities.
4.2.2
The applicant must be able to demonstrate problem solving abilities.
4.2.3
The applicant must be able to liaise with other hospital staff on a
professional level and have good interpersonal skills.
4.2.4
The applicant will be a calm, caring person who is sensitive to the
cultural differences inherent in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and
those of other members of staff.

The applicant will set and maintain professional standards and
attitudes, at all times in line with departmental and hospital
expectations, policies and procedures.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years in hospital pharmacy practice and at least 3 years in a
Managerial position.
5.0
TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
5.1
As laid down by the Hospital Programme and subject for amendment.
Remuneration will be commensurate with the category indicated above.
