Frequently Asked Questions – Club Champs
What are the club championships?
Each year, Runnymede Swimming Club holds its annual club championships. This is a series of swimming races,
for all, but only, Runnymede swimmers.
The competition is held at the Runnymede pool, over 2 weekends (19 &21 June, 3 & 5 July). We do it this way
so that the children can enter multiple events, hopefully posting personal best times. There is no normal
training on these days.
The Club Championships are a great way of introducing our newer swimmers to competitions in a familiar
environment. There are no qualifying times for club championships, meaning everyone can enter. Those
swimmers that do not have entry times, we have standard entry times based on the swimmers age and squad.
We also include four 25m events for the younger swimmers from our swimability squad.
How do we enter?
There is a standard entry form, which must be completed and returned to Andrea Prophet, by Friday 22nd May.
Most parents should now have received an entry pack for their child/ren.
So, what happens on the night/lunchtime?
The swimmers need to arrive around 15 minutes before the stated warm-up time. Swimmers will need to ‘signin’ on their way to the changing room, and once changed head to the whipping area (the club room).
Swimmers will need costumes/trunks; hat and goggles (spares advisable); t-shirt, flip flops and towel for the
whipping area; and a drink. The swimmers will not need to bring their kitbags, i.e. kickboard, fins, etc.
The area where we organise the children for their swims is known as the whipping area, we use the clubroom as
the whipping area. From here the swimmers will be taken to the pool for their warm-up, by the coaches. The
warm-up will be set according to squad. Following their warm-up, the swimmers will return to the clubroom,
and from there called up for their races.
Each event will be swum in time order, meaning we start with those swimmers entering on the slowest time
through to the fastest heat. This means, swimmers will swim against those of similar ability, not necessarily the
same age.

Of course swimmers can see and talk to their parents during the competition, but swimmers do need to be
predominately in the whipping area, so they do not miss being called for their race.
Parents are allowed to watch the races from poolside (£2 adult entry, £2 for programme). You will need to
queue, from the programme table, usually placed by the lifeguard entrance to the pool, and back through the
main entrance to the pool. Parents are allowed to take photographs, but you must register to do so, again a
book to sign will be available at the programme table.
The swimmers are allowed to leave once their races are finished. However, if they have friends still racing,
please stay to cheer!
How do I know the results?
During each session, after each race, the results in order with times will be posted on the walls in the main lobby
area of the pool. Please take a note of your child’s times in each event, as you can use these for future gala
entries. We have designed the programme this year, with an extra box, so you can record their time against
each swim.
We do award points for each race so we can work out a top girl and boy per age group. These results will be
announced at the presentation evening. Awards and trophies are presented each year at our presentation
evening. We are holding this on Saturday
September 2013. All children swimming will receive an award and
certificate at that event.
If I’ve got more questions who do I ask?
If your question is about which events to enter, then speak to your child’s coach.
