No: Date of Issue: Issue: Page: SMS/PH/J 004 17/01/12 5 1 of 3 JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Senior Pharmacist RESPONSIBLE FOR: Pharmacists and Technicians in their immediate control ACCOUNTABLE TO: Director and Assistant Director of Pharmacy JOB DESCRIPTION: 1.0 JOB SUMMARY: To assist the Assistant Director and Director of Pharmacy in managing all aspects of dispensing practices within the Pharmacies. 2.0 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 2.1 To participate in the daily work of the dispensary in a professional and ethical manner, as directed by the Assistant Director and Director of Pharmacy. 2.2 To ensure that dispensing and dispensing practices are performed in a safe, efficient and effective manner in accordance to the Policy and Procedure Guides of the Department and the Hospital, and also in accordance with the Pharmacy Dispensing Work Instruction agreed by the Department. 2.3 To ensure that each prescription is checked and signed by a Pharmacist, on their shift. 2.4 To assist with stock control and stock availability within the pharmacies, in accordance with the Policy and Procedure Guides. 2.5 To coordinate with Warehouse, Clinics and Doctors to liquidate the near expiry drugs and needs to take interest to liquidate the near expiry drugs from other locations of the pharmacies. 2.6 To assist with aseptic and non aseptic pharmacy manufacture, including the manufacture of T.P.N. 2.7 To supervise Pharmacists and Technicians under their immediate control, regarding dispensing and other pharmaceutical matters. 2.8 To supervise Pharmacy staff in the maintenance of controlled drug stock and records and to ensure that dispensed CDs are checked as correct. HOURS OF WORK: 3.1 4.0 The post-holder will work a 48 hour week on a rota basis. REQUIREMENTS: 4.1 4.2 Qualifications or Relevant Experience: 4.1.2 Graduated from an accredited College or University with a Degree in Pharmacy. 4.1.3 Currently registered as a Pharmacist from an accepted place, according to hospital policy. 4.1.4 Familiarity with Microsoft Office is essential. 4.1.5 Good written and spoken English. Personal Qualities: 4.2.1 The applicant must be able to demonstrate problem solving abilities. 4.2.2 The applicant must be able to liaise with other staff and clinicians on a professional level and have good interpersonal skills. 4.2.3 The applicant will be a calm, caring person who is sensitive to the cultural differences inherent in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and those of other members of staff. 4.2.4 The applicant will maintain professional standards and attitudes, at all times, in line with departmental and hospital expectations, policies and procedures.
